The California rock band The Mother Hips put on a great Leap Day show Friday, Feb. 29 at the Crystal Bay Casion. Their musical style was laid back and effortlessly funky, in the vein of indie rock greats such as Cake, Beck or the National.
The crowd was full of loyal fans, several members of the audience declared they had come to the last Mother Hips performance at CBC, or that they had been tracking the band on their tours up and down the coast of California for years.
Some highlights of the show included a great performance of their hit song Magazine and a chance to hear Blake Beeman (sound guy extradonaire for CBC) guest star for “Song in a Can” on the slide guitar.
The Mother Hips are: Tim Bluhm (guitar, vocals), Greg Loiacono (guitar, vocals), Paul Hoaglin (bass) and John Hofer (drums). Look for their new CD “Kiss the Crystal Flake,” being released in April.
