As most of us free-spirited Tahoans know and are now and again reminded of, life can be short. One thing for sure is that when one soul passes it seems to bring many together in mourning and celebration. This past Saturday was one of those days, one of those days that brought together the North and South Shores of Lake Tahoe to celebrate the life of one of our dear friends, Lily Galli.
Bands and friends met up from all over the lake at the Mt. Tallac Brewery in South Lake for a festival that benefited the creation of "The Stargazer."
The Stargazer is a temple being built by Nick Hernan of South Lake in memory of Lily.
"The Temple will be constructed at this year's Burning Man Festival and burned down at the end of the festival,” Hernan said. “The Stargazer is 25 feet tall to the pinnacle tip, it's 14 ft wide to the outer edge of the rafter tails that come down. It has a Buddhist style to it. The five sides of the Stargazer's pentagon structure will represent the five elements that are found in Eastern philosophy. The inner pinnacle structure spins to generate electricity which creates light during the night. The ideas for it were inspired by Lily who passed on March 4, 2008 in Panama. The idea came in massive waves of inspiration. While in Panama myself, I met an American architect named Mike Hann, who helped me get my ideas on paper from a sketch I made."
Among the acts present at the festival were the Rusty Strings, Pan Handle Slim and the Talking Machine Co., and Grooveland Quartet, not to mention fire dancing displays, face painters and many fine Tahoe folks on hand to celebrate the most important thing we know... Life.

Interview with Pan Handle Slim and the Talking Machine Co.:
Where do you get your style from? "Well, we were born and raised in Bodi, California, and it's not simply a style but a way of life."
What about the style makes it a way of life? "The way of life is the style, the rest of the world is interchangeable."
How would you describe your music? "The band is a dictatorship. The music is like Kurt meets Neil."
