The Mighty Tour de Nez Classic is celebrating its 15th year promising to please the cycling enthusiast, racer, spectator, and sponsor.
Dubbed “The Coolest Bike Race in America” by California Bicyclist magazine, the Tour de Nez is a true bike festival packed full of entertainment.
It began 22 years ago in Reno as the anniversary party of the funky, and now defunct, Deux Gros Nez — a restaurant that doubled as a shrine to cycling.
An event that boasted belly dancing, free mint juleps, cowboy whistling contests, food, and more, the owner of the Deux Gros Nez decided to add a bike race out of his love and experience in the cycling arena. Henceforth, the Mighty Tour de Nez classic was born.
With street credibility in the road racing community and a fun event for all who participate, the “new and improved” look, feel and schedule for 2007 is a professionally run event tempered with a double dose of soul.
Pros to watch this year are:
Returning over all Champ from 2006; Antonio Cruz of the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team
Also, fresh from the Giro D’Italia, Pro Tour rider; Aaron Olson of the T-Mobile team
Also, returning 1st and 2nd respectfully in last years Reno criterium; Curtis Gunn and Christian Valenzuela of the Succesful living team.
Always a good bet in a sprint; new Reno resident Alex Candelario of the Jelly Belly Pro Cycling Team, our 2005 Reno crit champ.
Of course there will be a powerfull squad representing the Health Net team as well as the Kodak Galleriey Sierra Nevada team.
New to the Tour de Nez this year and coming off a very successful Pan American games; the Columbian Natilonal team.
