The Space The modern interior and huge windows looking out on the slopes of Squaw Valley allow for interesting views from any vantage point. Diners have a choice of getting up close and personal with their sushi chef at the sushi bar, being served at a table in the dining room, or grabbing a stool at the bar in front and watching the crowds stroll by in the Village.
The Food Be prepared for a difficult decision as there is a lot of variety. Numerous rolls with sauces designed just for them as well as a large selection of appetizers, tapas style, veggie items and rice and noodle bowls. Can’t decide? Go with a party platter.
The Drinks What goes better with sushi and Japanese specialties than sake and beer? Mamasake has got a great selection of both, including hot and cold sakes and domestic and imported brews.
Gotta Try Craving variety? Share a chefs’ special sashimi with a friend and sample a selection of fish with unique preparations.
Tidbit The name Mamasake is a hybrid of many different roots: “mama” — a. an endearing term for a nurturing person, b. mother “sake” — a. Japanese rice wine/beer, b. Japanese word for salmon “mamasan” — a female proprietor of a bar or restaurant “Mamasake” — an exclamation used for extreme feelings of joy or in times of challenge
Price Range Starters range from $4 to $8, sushi rolls range from $7 to $16, entrees range from $12 to $16.
Hours of Operation Regular seasonal hours seven days noon to 9 or 10 p.m. May, June and October — no lunch Monday through Thursday.
