Lainie McFarlin

Lainie McFarlin’s interest in photography began as a young girl and has continued throughout her life.

A multi award-winning artist, McFarlin has received awards for her artistic work using various mediums, including her photo art, photography and drawing. A published garden writer and photographer in various magazines and newspapers, McFarlin’s skill working with 35 mm cameras served her well in her articles and columns. In 1999 was honored with a Quill and Trowel Award for her photography from the Garden Writer’s Association.

The year 2000 marked an artistic turning point in McFarlin’s photography repertoire with the addition of her “photo art” experience, extending her the opportunity to blend her photography and drawing background in the creation of each “dream-like” photo art image. McFarlin has received various first place awards, including “Best Photo Art,” “Best Photo Illustration” and “Best Event,” for her photo art from Nevada Magazine’s Great Nevada Picture Hunt.

Taking photos using vintage instant film camera, McFarlin immediately accents and enhances her “vision” of each photographed scene on-site without computers or added colors, but instead using small wooden tools, hand modifying portions of the 3” x 3 1/8” original photo image during its developing stage. Each resulting photo art creation differs in McFarlin’s use of technique and the focal areas she chooses to concentrate on, giving each image a unique, thought provoking quality.

McFarlin has been featured with her photo art in a variety of magazines. She has been living in Incline Village since 1979.

Art display:
Incline resident Lainie McFarlin will have her artwork on display throughout the months of April and May at the Incline Village Library.
