A 30–year–old nonprofit, The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City operates under the mission of bringing the arts to an otherwise underserved area spreading from Susanville to Bishop and everywhere in between.

The Brewery Arts Center gets its name from the building that houses it, formerly the Carson City Brewing Company which now encompasses the Donald W. Reynolds Black Box Theater, a pottery studio, classrooms, offices, a fine arts gallery, the Artisans’ gift shop and an 1864 restored Grand Ballroom. Across the street, the St. Teresa’s Church has been converted into a performance hall as well as housing a painting studio, dance studio and several meeting rooms.

While the Brewery Arts Center puts on several theatrical productions and musical concerts throughout the year, perhaps the most valuable aspect of the center is the educational side.

The Brewery Arts puts on various art classes in painting, sculpture and pottery.
The center’s BAC Stage Kids program offers children the chance to explore and learn about the art of theatre as well as providing strong theatrical education for those that may continue in the field.

BAC Stage Kids puts on up to four children’s productions a year, with actors, set builders, sound and lighting technicians, directors, backstage techs and other positions filled by children aged 4-16. The program has no fees, allowing children from all economic backgrounds a chance to explore the theatre.

Currently, BAC Stage Kids is running a production of The Wiz, a funkified version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The Brewery Arts Center is located at 449 West King St. in Carson City. Call (775) 883-1976 or check out www.breweryarts.org for more information or a schedule of classes.
