Hat people trying to steal the spotlight?

In this crazy fashion world we live in there are hat people and non-hat people. I am a hat person.

So I was reading this article which claimed that hat people choose to wear fedoras and newsboy caps because they’re trying to steal the limelight. Huh? Now I just thought this statement sounded completely ridiculous. I mean, let’s be honest here, don’t most people wear hats because they’re trying to cover up a bad hair day or are just too lazy to drag a comb through their hair?

For me, it’s really about convenience over being the center of attention. On a work day when I really don’t have the time or the patience to do my hair in the morning, grabbing a hat to cover my head and get out the door only takes a mere moment. And lately, with fashion-forward hats taking center stage, finding more ways to incorporate hats into my everyday wardrobe has gotten much simpler, and cuter for that matter.

I personally am not a fan of the baseball cap. They should be restricted to sporting events and backyard barbecues only. Say buh-bye to the baseball brims and hello to a whole new class of hats.

A favorite of mine, a plaid newsboy cap worn with jeans and a T-shirt makes a casual statement, but looks put-together. Knit caps and berets, though more of a winter trend, can top off a layered bohemian-chic look. And for the adventurous type — e.g. actress Sienna Miller — fedoras and oversized floppy-brimmed hats make an impact when accompanied with that little black dress and have that je ne sais quoi quality when you make your grand entrance.

What’s important to keep in mind when accessorizing with hats is the outfit you’re wearing it with. Pair a casual cap with a more laid-back outfit, otherwise it just looks all wrong.

For all you non-hat people out there, give ‘em a try. What’s the worst that could happen? You’ll end up with some outrageous hat hair.
