Pianeta Ristorante 10096 Donner Pass Road, Truckee, California 530·587·4694
Dining at Pianeta Ristorante, tucked in the heart of downtown Truckee, is like taking a trip to Italy, minus the travel time. Serving authentic Italian cuisine since 1998, Pianeta has a great bar scene with a warm and friendly staff - ideal for a romantic meal for two or a celebration with friends.
The Space The ambiance of Pianeta, Italian for planets, evokes the artwork of Leonardo Da Vinci with antiqued murals painted on the walls by a local artist. Get a cozy, candlelit booth downstairs or reserve the oversized harvest table upstairs for a gathering of friends and family. Eclectic antique knick-knacks adorn the restaurant’s walls and give the place an old-world charm.
The Food Pianeta has a variety of classic pasta dishes, from spaghetti to ravioli, with many mouth-watering main courses in between. The grilled pork tenderloin or the grilled Alaskan halibut are delicious choices for those with an appetite. Try a classic caesar salad and an appetizer of bruschetta for a lighter meal.
The Drinks Pianeta is the place to go for hard-to-find Italian wines. Tom Beckering, Pianeta’s bar manager, says he recommends the 2001 Argiano Brunello, an Italian red wine, or the 2004 Etude pinot noir to accompany a meal. Pianeta has an extensive wine list to accomodate many tastes. Although beer is only served by the bottle, Pianeta offers Italian brews like Moretti, a light lager.
Gotta Try The Ravioli della Casa screams comfort food - house-made ravioli filled with ricotta, parmesan cheese, basil, and spinach and topped with a sauté of crimini, shitake and portabella mushrooms, roma tomatoes, and garlic. Or for those with a sweet tooth, take a decadent bite of house-made espresso and chocolate layered Tiramisu. “Picks you right up!”
