New gear = instant progression
So you’ve taken your boat out of storage, dusted her off, filled her up and launched her on Tahoe or one of the other lakes around the area. Time to bust out the wakeboard and get your skills back up to where you left off last summer. And nothing will get you stoked like some fresh new gear.
The experts at Cope & McPhetres Marine in the Tahoe City gave us these recommendations on boards for Tahoe’s notoriously choppy waters:
For beginners: Hyperlite Motive - A mellower turn with a smoother lift off the wake than other Hyperlite decks.
For intermediates: Liquid Force Watson - Comes with an aggressive three-stage rocker for hard-hitting pop that boosts you straight up. A board to take you to the next level.
For advanced riders: Hyperlite Premier - A jib-friendly, smooth, rail turn with three-stage shape. Designed for knees-bent riders sharing their time on water and on rails.
For women: Wakeboarding companies are making more and more women-specific models every year, including the Eden series from Hyperlite. A great board to progress your riding, the Eden even comes with a matching set of boots for those girls who want the total package.
New boots to check out: You’ve seen snowboarders with Flow bindings strapping in in seconds while you’re sittin’ in the snow freezing your ass off? Well, the wakeboarders at CWB Board Co. decided to apply that same rear-entry design to wakeboard boots. The result is the new Hinge Tech system which makes putting on your boots easier than anything before. So leave the Newt Juice in the boat and spend less time straining to pull on your boots.
Accessories: Still using that tired old nylon rope you used to ski with back in the ‘90s? Upgrade to a tangle-free rope by Hyperlite for $99.
Style on the water is cool. Style in the boat is a must. So pick up a pair of the Reef Mulligan flip-flops (with built in golf tee holder) and kick back with flair after your session is over.
