The 14th Annual Tour de Nez, a true American-style celebration of all things cycling, pedals into the Reno/Tahoe area June 22-24 for a good time filled with pro, amateur and enthusiast events. Expanding the celebration into Tahoe and Truckee for 2006, the Tour de Nez is geared up and ready to go. Grab a front row seat as some of the nations top cycling teams compete for a chance to take home more than $35,000 in prize money in the pro-cycling series and earn points on the National Racing Calendar.
“This year’s Tour de Nez, ‘the worlds greatest Cycling Adventure’ is going to be just that,” said promoter and Race Supreme Commander Tim Healion. “We have put together three days of pro racing, kids and clunker racing, beach parties, live bands, cycling specific trade expos, century rides and the National Handcycling Criterium Championships. This will absolutely be the ultimate cycling oriented festival in the country.”
Dubbed “the coolest cycling adventure in the world,” the Tour de Nez is one of the fastest growing professional cycling races in the United States and offers three days of fun for the whole family in Reno, Truckee and Tahoe City. The Pro Series begins with the Verdi Time Trial and the Truckee Criterium on June 22nd, followed by the Tahoe Road Race on June 23rd and ending with the famous Mighty Tour de Nez Criterium on June 24th.
This year will mark the beginning of the National Hand Cycling Criterium Championships in Reno on June 24th, cementing the Tour de Nez as an all-inclusive cycling event. The celebration continues all three days with the Biggest Little Kid’s Race in Truckee, Tahoe City and Reno. The famous Clunker Classic also expands to all three locations, encouraging all alternative forms of two wheel transportation to take to the pavement and ride. Rounding off the celebration will be messenger races, century rides, expos, clinics and of course plenty of mint juleps at every corner!
Started 14 years ago to celebrate the anniversary of Reno’s first coffee house, Deux Gros Nez, the Tour de Nez has grown from a Masters Twilight Criterium to a three-day party in Truckee, Tahoe City and Reno. Revelers will enjoy live music, belly dancing, bike demonstrations, mint juleps, bike decorating contests, face painting and a world full of bike madness and mayhem. Highlights of this year’s Tour de Nez will air on a one-hour show on the Outdoor Life Network.
