The Tahoe Chamber Music Society closes its 2008 Summer Concert Series this coming Sunday, Aug. 17, with pianist Richard Cionco. The free Sunday afternoon concert at the newly renovated St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Kelly Drive and Mt. Rose Highway, Incline Village, Nev., begins at 3 p.m.
The first half of Mr. Cionco’s program is all Beethoven: Six Bagatelles followed by Beethoven’s last piano Sonata, No. 32 in c Minor, which he dedicated to Archduke Rudolph. After intermission, the American Variations, written in 2007 by the young American composer Sunny Knable and two of the Moments Musical by Sergei Rachmaninov complete the program.
Mr. Cionco has performed with many symphony orchestras, has been heard on National Public Radio, and has a number of recordings to his credit. The latest one is Latin American Music for Solo Piano and appears on the Centaur Records label. Mr. Cionco appeared here as part of the Beethoven Sonata concert series presented by the Society in the Fall of 2006. He is also on the faculty of California State University, Sacramento.
The Tahoe Chamber Music Society, presenter of this concert, used to be known as the Incline Chamber Music Society. This year, to reflect the wider area from which its audience is drawn, the Society changed its name. The Society also changed its venue to the newly remodeled St. Francis of Assisi Church which seats 300 as opposed to the 170 of the previous venue.
These concerts have been funded, in part, by the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation, the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation, and the Carol Franc Buck Foundation.
