We asked readers to submit a photo of a wooden boat (did not have to be on Lake Tahoe). We had many wonderful submissions but the staff pick was this photo shown above by John Rogers of Incline Village. He won a pair of tickets to the Concours d’ Elegance this weekend. Congratulations John!

36th Annual Concours d’ Elegance Thursday, Aug. 7 Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance "VIP Preview" Day Noon to 4 p.m. Venue: Sierra Boat Company, Carnelian Bay Back by demand for a second year, the "VIP Preview day" has become the premier day of the event. If you want to view the boats at your leisure, Thursday is the day with the addition of some special added attractions such as free wooden boat rides, hosted appetizers and libations, and live music to celebrate our Concours' 36th anniversary.
We invite our Personal and Corporate Sponsors, exhibitors, and the first 500 guests to enjoy this exclusive afternoon to preview the boats of the 2008 Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance plus: Opening Ceremony with Vintage Aircraft Flyover Hosted hors d’oeuvres and libations for all to enjoy Classic Wooden Boat rides and stroll the docks in leisure. Be sure to reserve early; this event will sell out to the first 500 guests, tickets are $100 per person.
Opening Night Premier Gala 6 to 9:30 p.m. Venue: Ed Z'Berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, Ehrman Mansion The historical Ehrman Mansion on Lake Tahoe’s beautiful West Shore will again provide a perfect venue for this unique event. Hosted cocktails, culinary creations from D’lish Catering, wine, ‘20s era jazz from Johnny Bones and the Palace of Jazz, and a silent auction are all on the evening’s schedule.
This is a sellout event so make your reservations promptly. Semi formal dress is requested with a ‘20s era theme if you desire. Tahoe evenings can become cool, so please bring a wrap and wear shoes that are comfortable on a lawn setting. Reservations are required.
Friday, Aug. 8 36th Annual Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Venue: Sierra Boat Company, Carnelian Bay Stroll the docks for an "up close" view of more than 100 classic craft in North America's premiere wooden boat show PLUS a look at what's new in the NEW BOAT ROW. There's a full-color souvenir program to take home plus vendor booths, food, beverages, and live music to enjoy throughout the day. And don't forget to vote for your favorite "Peoples Choice" boat among the Concours entries to be awarded at the end of the show on Saturday.
Advance tickets are $30 per 1-day ticket, $35 for a 2-day ticket. Children under 12 free when accompanied by adult. Prices go up by $5 after July 15. (Sorry, no strollers or dogs allowed in marina)
Exhibitor Barbecue and Awards Presentation 5 to 8 p.m. Venue: Sierra Boat Company, Carnelian Bay We invite our exhibitors, judges, and guests to enjoy Korbel Champagne among the boats, a fabulous barbecue feast, and the Awards Presentation with the exception of the People's Choice Perpetual Trophy, which will be presented on Saturday afternoon. Reservations are required.
Saturday, Aug. 9 36th Annual Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Venue: Sierra Boat Company, Carnelian Bay The show — and voting for the "Peoples Choice" perpetual trophy - continues with all Perpetual trophy winners announced the previous night now identified in their boat slips for Saturday's guests to see. Then gather 'round for the "People's Choice" Award announcement and watch the boats "roar off" at the end of the day.
