Incline resident Jim Markle’s personal images are influenced as much by his appreciation for art and history, as by the beauty and diversity he sees in nature. Markle’s photography will be on display at the Incline Village Library throughout the months of April and May. The library is located at 845 Alder Ave., in Incline Village.

Tahoe World Associate Editor Morgan Kriz was in contact with Jim Markle last week and shares her interview with the artist:

Your artwork has appeared all over the world. How does it feel to have your artwork on display at the Incline Village Library?
As a new resident, I’m pleased to show my photographs locally. My wife and I moved to Incline Village last September, so people in this area haven't seen my work. The library is a great place to start.

You take a variety of photos? What is your favorite subject to shoot?
That’s difficult to say. The world is too dynamic to focus on one thing. That’s why I enjoy photographing people, plants, animals, landscapes, events or whatever I encounter. Perhaps it comes from my background in fine art and design, but I’m always seeking more creative ways to capture the viewers attention.

What do you hope viewers take away after they see your photos?
I hope each individual viewing my work is inspired by something, even if it’s the result of one image.

Please tell readers more about your service “Tahoe Photo Adventures.” How did you start this?
Actually, this is still on the drawing board. My goal is to provide an opportunity for people to learn how to take better photographs. Keep in mind that a camera only records light, not necessarily what we see or want others to see in our images.

Have you met your ultimate goal?
No. I’m too busy meeting new people and learning new things. For example, I'm a trained docent for the Tahoe Environmental Research Center located in Incline Village. As a volunteer, I help educate children and adults visiting the Center address environmental issues facing Lake Tahoe and the world. In the process, I’m learning from researchers and experts in their respective fields. Plus, I provide the Center with photos for education and promotional use.

What does the future hold for you?
I’m just starting as an adjunct instructor with the art and photography departments at Lake Tahoe Community College. Plus, I’m working to get more of my images published and sold. I do this through a combination of workshops, exhibits, competitions, stock photography and photo assignments.
