Sunny skies, one enormous jump, and incredible talent made for one of the year’s best Toyota Sick n’ Twisted Big Air ski and snowboard competitions this past Sunday at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. In all, 60 of Tahoe’s pros and top amateur skiers and snowboarders rolled out all their best tricks to vie for $5,000 in cash and prizes in the Snowbomb Sick & Twisted Big Air Competition.
Judges unanimously sent Tahoe resident Cody Boan to first place in the men’s snowboard division after pulling off a cab 1080 over Truckee local Brandon Cocard, who did a perfect switch 900; and first place in the men’s ski division went to Mammoth local Bernard Rosow by nailing a switch 1080 for both runs.
Women’s snowboard division winner was Incline Village’s Iris Lazzeraschi, with a backside 540; and women’s ski division winner was Shawndrea Wisma of South Lake Tahoe, throwing the smoothest, stylie 360 ever seen in competition, ever.
Ryan Howsley swept the amateur ski division and Tahoe local Jon McGee grabbed first place for the amateur snowboard division.
“I’m blown away by the caliber of talent that competed Sunday,” said Justin Broglio, Director of the Toyota Sick n’ Twisted Freestyle Tour. “Competitors were all top-level, and judging was probably the day’s most difficult job. The difference between first and second place was very close. A special thanks goes to Alpine Meadows for building a flawless competition jump.”
