The Space
Bite, Incline Village’s latest and only tapas restaurant, occupies the spot formerly taken by Grumpy’s across from the Raley’s shopping center. The restaurant is a classic case of the cliché don’t judge a book by its cover. While the outside architecture has a very classic Tahoe woodsy vibe, the inside of Bite is sleek enough to fit into any metropolitan setting. There’s a large square bar upon entering the space followed by a plethora of tables and edgy chairs. The décor is sparse, but still inviting.

The Food
American tapas is the main genre of food at Bite. Tapas began as appetizers in Spanish cuisine like mixed olives and cheese or fried baby squid. In recent years the dish has developed into a whole meal in restaurants in the United States and England. At Bite, tapas takes on an American flavor with a full array of sliders and even onion sticks. The idea behind tapas restaurants is to order a number of dishes and share them among a group so that each member can get a taste of different dishes.

The Drinks
The drink menu is extensive at Bite and includes cocktails to wine. Some of the best features include two-ounce pours of wine for those in a fickle mood or a pomegranate martini that is the perfect blend of tangy, sweet and chilled.

Gotta Try
The Ahi Sliders are “sushi on a bun” and an amazing blend of fresh seared ahi, a soft eggy bun and a mouthwatering aioli. The sliders come in two per dish and are bigger than a child’s burger at McDonalds. The miniature beef Wellingtons are also a little piece of succulent heaven. However, even those in search of comfort food can try the classic macaroni and cheese. Finish it off with one (or all) of Bite’s incredible miniature deserts.

Tidbit
Thomas and Brooke McCarthy, the owners of “Bite,” have worked in restaurants in the Tahoe area, Santa Barbara, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington D.C., New York, the Caribbean, Ireland, Atlanta and Tennessee.

Price Range
Entrees at Bite (larger tapas) range anywhere from $7 to $16, but don’t expect to order just one. The point of tapas is to order a few dishes, so bring a group. The wine list ranges from $20 to more than $100 for a bottle.

Hours of Operation
4:30 to 10 p.m. everyday but Tuesday.

Location
Bite is located at 907 Tahoe Blvd. in Incline Village. It’s across from the Raley’s shopping center and close to 7-Eleven.
