As the closing party of the 27th Annual North Tahoe Snow Festival, River Ranch's 20th Annual Snow Sculpture Contest (held last Sunday, March 9) was an event to enjoy.
The abundant sunshine, barbecue and live music helped to set the stage for creative snow sculpting from teams of three representing local businesses including Jake's on the Lake, Gar Woods Grill & Pier, Trilogy Spa, Squaw Valley Sport Shop, Callaghan's, Sierra Vista, Resort at Squaw Creek, and the River Ranch.
Cartoon-themed sculptures were the theme for the top two winners. The Callaghan Family, who have participated for the last 20 years, took first place with a huge rendition of Homer Simpson complete with duff beer and chocolate donuts. Gar Woods took second with their colorful sculpture of Sponge Bob Square Pants along with his pal Patrick the Star Fish enjoying some waves on their surf board. Trilogy Spa's Love Shack took third place with themed music, sweet treats and extra love all a part of their vision.
The fundraising aspect of the day was also a huge success as the raffle raised $1,500 for Disabled Sport USA Far West.
The River Ranch is located at the corner of Hwy. 89 & Alpine Meadows Road in between Squaw Valley and Tahoe City and are open nightly for dinner and serving lunch Saturdays and Sundays. Please call (530) 583-4264 for more information.
