The Space
Since the Grog N’ Grist Market and Deli is a convenience store, you won’t find a plush establishment like many areas on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore. What you will find is a homey and fast-paced atmosphere, as many Grog patrons are on the go, whether it be to work in the early morning or during lunch. There is a small dining area in the bagel shop that features 10 to 12 tables, and during warm days, a few tables are set up outside the shop.

The Food
For breakfast, the Grog offers a wide array of bagels, as well as breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burritos full of eggs, hash browns, salsa and different choices of meat and cheese. For lunch, there are countless different sandwich combinations, ranging from ham to pastrami to tuna to braunsweiger to veggie. Patrons choose from eight different cheeses (mozzarella, provolone and smoked gouda, to name a few) and up to 10 bread selections, ranging from light rye to seven-grain to freshly baked French rolls. An array of side dishes, from potato salad to deviled eggs to soup to chili also are available.

The Drinks
The Grog doesn’t offer any drinks on its deli menu, but since the deli is part of the market, all types of sodas, juices, water, beers and wine are available at competitive market prices.

Gotta Try
The deviled eggs are homemade everyday, and are just 99 cents for two halves. They serve as a perfect, not-so-filling side dish to a southwest turkey melt, one of the Grog’s signature sandwiches, according to Grog owner Laurie Singleton. It features turkey, with your choice of melted cheese, bread and toppings, along with a green chili pepper.

Or if you’re a morning person, make it simple by spending just $2.10 on a groggy muffin, a sandwich made from an English muffin, eggs, cheese and choice of ham, sausage or bacon.

Tidbit
If you want a little more variety in your sandwich, try one of the Grog’s five specials — the Boss Special, the Joe’s Special, the Michele’s Special, the Jennifer’s Special and the Combo. One of the more popular choices is the Jennifer, which features turkey, cranberry and cream cheese.

Price Range
The Grog definitely is a great place to go if you’re looking for a lot of food and have limited funds. For lunch, sandwich prices generally range anywhere from $4 to $6, with soup and sides ranging from $1 to $3. For breakfast, sandwiches, bagels and burritos range from $1 to $4. And, since the deli is just part of the store, you will find competitive prices on everything from potato chips to candy to doughnuts.

Hours of Operation
Monday through Friday: 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Breakfast served until 10:30 a.m. every day
In the summer, the deli generally is open until 5 p.m., Singleton said.

Location
The Grog is located at 800 Tahoe Blvd. in Incline Village, at the Northwood Boulevard and state Route 28 intersection. It is adjacent to the Village Ski Loft.
