The Space
The classically-styled mahogany interior synchronized with a contemporary motif inside Gar Woods Grill and Pier evokes a nostalgic, yet trendy atmosphere symbolic of Lake Tahoe’s past, present and future. The restaurant is located on the curving shoreline of Carnelian Bay, and offers spectacular floor-to-ceiling views of Lake Tahoe. Named after speed-boat pioneer Garfield Wood, the walls are decorated with photographs of the sleek and powerful Gar Wood water crafts he invented. A warming fireplace caters to winter patrons, while a spacious deck welcomes summer-time boaters.
 The Food
Gar Wood’s menu features an innovative and inspirational take on traditional American cuisine. The chef recommends starting off with steamed clams in a white wine garlic-butter sauce or coconut prawns in a mango-mustard marmalade. From the dinner menu, the filet and scampi combination, and orange-soy glazed Ahi continue to be restaurant staples.
The Drinks
Gar Woods is known for their world-famous Wet Woody specialty drink, but for more sophisticated dining, an extensive wine list is available.
Gotta Try
The pistachio-crusted halibut topped with a mango-jicama relish, served on a pesto risotto with a pomegranate syrup will astonish the taste buds with its unique blend of flavors.
 Tidbit
Don’t miss out on the bar’s happy hour served Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. where cafe appetizers are 50 percent off and drinks range from $2.75 to $4.75.
Also every Wednesday and Friday during “Alpine and Homewood Nights,” the restaurant raffles off generous prizes from 6 to 9 p.m., such as snow apparel, lift tickets and dinner for two at Gar Woods.
Price Range
Appetizers cost $12 to $17, deck favorites range from $11 to $19, and dinner entrees are from $21 to $40.
Hours of Operation
Lunch is served from noon until 5 p.m. seven days a week, dinner is available from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 5 to 9:30 p.m. on Sundays, and the bar is always open during regular business hours.
