The Space Located next to the ice skating rink in the heart of the new Village-at-Northstar™, Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar is sure to bring a lot more life to the resort. Flat-screen TVs, intimate booths, and a cool, Tahoe urban space capture your attention, but it’s the intriguing Blue Fin Tuna sculpture that changes color with the daylight and the colored wave wall that is the focus of the space.
The Food Mikuni master chef Taro Arai is imaginative, inventive, personable, unpredictable, energetic, eclectic, and even a little bit outrageous. He’s one of the hottest and most renowned sushi chefs to hit the restaurant scene. Taro has a natural instinct for creating gastronomical delights that range from traditional Japanese-style sushi to variations designed to please the American palate. He presents a menu unequaled by any sushi bar is the western United States, and has a knack for understanding and satisfying the distinct tastes of his customers. Mikuni has been an award-winning restaurant for ten consecutive years, and under Taro’s culinary leadership, Mikuni sushi chefs have conceived more than 300 original creations— many of them named for their loyal guests.
The Drinks Choose from the extensive list of premium sakes, beers and wines available in a variety of sizes. Don’t see something you recognize? Ask a server to help you pair sake with what you’re ordering.
Gotta Try Want to really impress a date? At $87, the Ryman Roll features Dungeness crab, cucumber, avocado, tuna and smoked salmon. But it’s the California caviar and real gold flakes that justify the price. Or, if you are not out to impress, you can get a California roll for $5.
Tidbit This holiday season, imagine having your own private Mikuni chef to entertain you and your guests at your private party or corporate event. Let master chef Taro Arai and his team of talented sushi chefs prepare all of your Mikuni favorites and even invent brand new creations before your very eyes and catered to your own personal tastes. Other catering options include the Mikuni Sushi Bus (the world’s only sushi bar and meeting facility on wheels), a complete curriculum of “Sushiology” sushi-making classes, and full-service custom catering. See www.mikunisushi.com or call (916) 576-2641 to speak with an event planning specialist for details.
Price Range Starters and salads range from $5 to $14 and are perfect for sharing. Sushi rolls start at $5 and top out at $16 (except for the Ryman Roll noted above). Other entrees from $7 to $15.
