The time has come. That’s right, adios mis amigos. I’m off to grace a whole new country, a whole new continent even, with my celebrity know-how. The love affairs, award shows, drug overdoses, suicide attempts, body complexes...

I’m off to learn Spanish, and about Hollywood’s Latin counterparts, in Argentina.

It’s People en Español for me here on out. Maybe I’ll get really into telenovelas — those absurdly dramatic soap operas. Or I’ll just watch subtitled American shows like Roseanne or Cheers they always broadcast overseas. I’ve got to learn Spanish somehow, after all, and I think trash TV and celebrity rags are my best bet.

Truth is, in researching content for this column at www.peopleenespanol.com (in English), I just couldn’t get into these foreign celebs. I mean, I’m sure I’ll grow to love them soon enough, but they’re just not familiar. For example, breaking news reported that some beautiful, busty singer was at a fútbol game with her famous comedian boyfriend (Britney Spears and Criss Angel anyone?).

Then there were some photos of two actors from the season finale of a soap opera posing at some grand opening (like Ellen Pompeo and McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy). And then there was a story about Mexican singer Paulina Rubio claiming “I’m not pregnant.” (Nicole Ritchie? Xtina Aguilera? Jennifer Garner?) See? It’s just not the same.

Anyhow, I’m taking this opportunity to bid my six readers adieu (I lost two in an angry huff when I admitted that Rumer Willis tops the so-not-hot list) as I move on to the next stage of my life. So take care, Hollywood, as this celebrity-monger is officially offline.

Joanna Hartman has been writing for the Tahoe World since last summer and is running away to Buenos Aires, Argentina to learn Spanish and tango and to eat world-renowned steak and drink inexpensive red wine for the next six months.
