Dining at this locale is one-night only, and there’s a limited time to buy your space at the table. In fact, if you didn’t get in on this auction item on July 6, then you’ll have wait another 9 1/2 months for the next Project MANA Wine & Roses benefit.

Moody’s Bistro & Lounge in Truckee hosted the July fundraising event, where executive chef Mark Estee offered the item “Down on the Farm.” Groups of eight with $2,500 to give for hunger relief bought themselves a night to remember in the Sierra Valley, where they were catered to by Moody’s staff in a rustic barn as the sun set over the mountains.

The Space
Dinner was presented on the Sierra Valley Farm, in the third-generation Romano family barn, built in 1939. The project was very local, with lumber provided by the old Calpine Mill and construction completed by current owner and operator Gary Romano’s grandfather and his sons. The beautiful antique barn was constructed in the Swiss-Italian style typical of the late 19th century in the Sierra Valley.
Views of the Sierra foothills and Beckwourth Peak and the family style, sit-down meal at a table set for 36 lent the whole evening a rustically elegant air.

The Food
The three-course dinner was designed and created by Mark Estee, a board member of Project MANA and executive chef at Moody’s Bistro & Lounge. The dinner service was inspired by the Moody’s menu — starting off with tomato gazpacho, and featuring mouth-watering steak sirloin, seared ahi tuna from Hawaii, fois gras, a dried-fruit polenta with golden raisins, cherries and cranberries.

The Drinks
Simple red and white wines were well paired with this organic feast. The offerings were Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay from the Berniger Valley Ranch.

Gotta Try
The experience of having an award-winning chef cook a small, locally inspired feast with the proceeds going toward a cause he is truly devoted to.

Price Range
Tickets for this event were auctioned at the Project MANA benefit auction at Moody’s in July. Three groups of eight people bought into the night of fine dining at Sierra Valley Farms: $7,500, all of which goes to Project MANA, North Shore and Truckee’s hunger relief organization.
