Below is an excerpt from the introduction participants will hear at Sunday's Trails and Vistas art hike on Donner Summit. These words were written by Nancy Tieken Lopez and Cathee van Rossem St. Clair:

“The more you increase perception, the more you can slow down time,” says racecar driver, Tom Duncan.

Perhaps this is what we do when we seek refuge in nature. We move from the rush and noise of our daily lives into a place of relative calm where we can renew our awareness. If we bring our chaos with us, the wilderness chatters right along with our minds. If we choose to heighten our senses to all the dialects of the land, the pulse of time begins to match the slowing beat of our hearts, and we begin to recognize the call of the tanager or the strange “whoosh” of the nighthawk as introductions to the layered stories that await us on the trail.

We will journey together to a mystical lake with views of a castle and witness dance, music, poetry and art. Each performance is unique; some performances will have a welcoming song, a performance, and an exit song, while at other sites we will pause to peer into an art installation, or listen to the music of the land.

If you are returning participant for Trails and Vistas, you know that some interactive element is in store for you. If this is your first time for Trails and Vistas your role of spectator will be transformed into the role of participant by the end of our journey.
We start our journey from too much noise, from the clatter of the road and the clatter in our own minds. As we travel deeper into the forest, take time to listen to the land: to hear more, see more and feel more...
