The Space Captain Jon’s Seafood and Lounge in Tahoe Vista, recently leased and operated by Blue Onion Cafe and Catering, serves “Island” cuisine at an on-the-lake pier lined with tiki torches. Diners can also eat or drink at the bar in the cozy indoor restaurant if it gets too cool outside once the sun sets.
The Food Choose from a variety of meat and seafood cooked with a pan-Asian-Carribean flare like spicy Thai seafood soup, island crab cakes with mango salsa, teriyaki glazed salmon or chicken satay.
The Drinks Don’t be surprised to see wines from around the world as well as a good selection of beers at the island-themed bar. Get in the right state of mind with a mai tai, piña colada, bottle of Red Stripe or a pint of Kona Longboard Lager.
Gotta Try The Ahi tuna handroll with tofu, sticky rice and a variety of spices wrapped in seaweed. Also check out the seafood specials like crab-stuffed halibut.
Tidbit The restaurant will close mid October for the winter season.
Price Range Reasonably priced; entrees for lakefront dining range from $9 to $23.
Hours of Operation Open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily.
Location 7220 North Lake Blvd., Tahoe Vista, Calif.
