What can be more fun then hucking yourself 80-feet into an icy cold pool of flowing Sierra Nevada water?

If that sounds nice to you a trip to Emerald Pools near Nevada City might be just the thing to do on a hot summer day.

On Thursday, Aug. 9, a crew of Tahoe folks headed down to this cliff jumping paradise to set up a zipline across the canyon walls.

Led by our intrepid leader Sam, the line was successfully stretched with rope and various pieces of climbing gear from a high point in the canyon down to the Yuba River floor. The setup took about an hour and once the kinks were taken out it was ready to roll.

As people took turns holding on and descending from 40 feet high into the water, others threw themselves off the numerous 10-80 foot jumps available for your insane fancy.

Much can be told from the sound a human makes when they either splash or hit the water from a large height. A splash sounds normal and usually means the person is fine, but every once in a while you hear a thud or smack sound and it always makes onlookers nervous.

One cannot help but notice the crosses on the pathway down as they walk in giving the place a cautious vibe from the get go. People lose their lives annually and get injured daily.

On Thursday, one of our crew had to have his shoulder popped back into place after a huge jump that dislocated it.

Emerald Pools, although beautiful and serene is no place to take lightly.
