The Space The Old Post Office was a normal post office from 1942-1975. In 1976 it was purchased by Al and Norma Schwartz and made into a restaurant. It has postage stamp wallpaper and art by local artists on the walls. The counters are a big draw because a single diner can feel comfortable. They have three main dining areas and outdoor dining in the summer.
The Food The Old Post Office Cafe is known for its pancakes and waffles which are made from scratch. The benedicts are very popular because, like the omelets, customers can create their own breakfast using whatever ingredients they like. “We are a good old American breakfast joint”.
The Drinks The Old Post Office makes a full range of coffee drinks including lattes, mochas, cappuccinos and espresso as well as mimosas, bloody Marys, good old shakes, malts and floats.
Gotta Try Any of the different benedicts or the pancakes made from scratch will turn you into a dedicated fan, but everything is good and worth a try.
Tidbit Owners Frank and Linda Jansen have been running restaurants in Tahoe for 32 years and are still going strong. The Old Post Office Cafe is the oldest breakfast joint on the North Shore (31 years old). The place can be crowded at times during peak season but it’s well worth the wait.
