Celebs go green for the good of ... our plumbing?
We all know celebrities are kooky, but some of them are particularly so when it comes to the environment. We expect the likes of Paris Hilton and Joe Francis to drive one of their dozen gas-guzzling Hummers to and from boutiques selling designer clothes made by enslaved Mongolian children.
And I suppose it’s pretty predictable that political guys like George Clooney speak out against global warming. And I guess we shouldn’t be surprised by hippie-dippy Texans like Matthew McConaughey who save the earth by bike riding shirtless to the market for milk.
But Sheryl Crow has really stepped over the line. She’s advocating for people to use just one square of toilet paper per bathroom visit, with the exception of “those pesky occasions where two to three could be required,” she has said. Seriously, Sheryl, I know you’re a vegan and everything but you’ve got to unload at least a pound or two of sprouts every now and again. And we all know what havoc too many veggies can wreak on the system.
“I propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting,” she has said while touring the U.S. on a biodiesel-powered bus to raise awareness about climate change.
One question: Is that single or double-ply, Sheryl?
At least she’s doing her part by running around, blinged out in diamonds I imagine, in a bus fueled by the greases from food she’d never eat anyway.
Ms. Crow has also emphasized the wastefulness of napkins. She has designed a clothing line with what she calls the “dining sleeve.” The sleeve is used to wipe one’s mouth during a meal. It’s detachable and can be replaced with another dining sleeve after dinner.
One word: gross.
