An abundance of trails, mountains, water, and vistas, makes Tahoe the perfect summer playground for adventure races. Whether you are looking to run your first 5K or find the traditional marathon not challenging enough, Tahoe has a variety of races that will raise the heart rate of any athlete all summer long.

JUNE

June 24-25
Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run
33rd year starting line is at Squaw Valley and ends in Auburn, Calif.

JULY

July 7-8
Reno-Tahoe Odyssey
178 mile relay race divided into 36 legs of different lengths and difficulty. Each runner does three legs of the relay. The race starts in Downtown Reno along the Truckee River and goes through the Sierra Nevada mountains and along the shores of Lake Tahoe, back through the Northern Nevada high desert and finishes in Reno.

July 15
Tahoe Rim Trail 50k National Championship 50 mile and 100 mile endurance run
Starts at Spooner Lake State Park limited to 350 participants.

Donner Lake Sprint Triathlon
A quarter-mile swim in Donner Lake, Six mile bike ride up Old Highway 40 and back down and a two mile run.

July 16
Donner Lake International Triathlon
1.5 km swim in Donner Lake, 40 km bike up Old Highway 40 towards Kingvale and back down and a 6.5 km run

July 22
30th Annual Trans Tahoe Invitational Relay 11.5 mile swimming relay race in Lake Tahoe. Starts at Sand Harbor Beach.

July 23
Trans-Sierra Crossing an 18-mile trail run along the Rubicon Jeep Trail followed by a 65-mile road bike ride Down the western slope of the Sierra to the historic gold-mining town of Coloma.

Aug. 5
Donner Lake Swim, a 2.7-mile swim across Donner Lake.

Aug. 9
26th Annual Squaw Valley Run
A 3.6-mile scenic dirt road climbing 200 feet from the base Village to the mid-moontain lodge High Camp el. 8200 ft Benefits the Tahoe Forest Hospital.

Sept. 2-3
Bob Steele Memorial Outrigger Canoe Races
A six-person canoe race from Tahoe Vista to Dollar Point and back. A memorial race for the Northern California Outrigger Canoe Association founder Bob Steele.

Tour De Tahoe - Bike Big Blue
A 72-mile bike ride around Lake Tahoe and a sightseeing Boat Cruise and 35-mileride. Limited to 1500 participants.

Sept 16
Lake Tahoe Triathlon
An Olympic distance triathlon with a 1.5 km swim , 40 km bike and a 10 km run. Starts and finishes in Kings Beach.

Tahoe Big Blue Sprint
2-4 hour sprint adventure race that includes kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, trail running, orienteering, navigation and high rope skills.

A 6-12 hour adventure race that includes kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, trail running, orienteering, navigation and high rope skills.

Tahoe Sierra Century
100-mile, 60-mile and 30-mile rides. All rides start and finish at Squaw Valley. Races go through Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Truckee and down to Cisco Grove. A total 5,000 feet of climbing.

OATBRAN - “One Awesome Tour Bike Ride Across Nevada”
A five-day 420-mile fully supported ride across Nevada following the Pony Express Trail on Highway 50 starting at Lake Tahoe and finishing at Great Basin National Park. Limited to 50 riders

Lake Tahoe Marathon week

Sept. 29-Oct. 1
Lake Tahoe Three Day Triathlon
A Kayak or swim, a 72 or 35-mile road bike ride around the lake and then either a 10 kmrun, half-marathon or Marathon.

Sept. 30
Tahoe Ultra Marathon
A 72-mile running race that starts north of South Lake Tahoe will go counter clockwise around Lake Tahoe and finishes at Pope Beach. There will be a 16 hour time limit.

Lake Tahoe Marathon 20-mile power walk or run
Starts at Homewood and finishes at Pope Beach.

Lake Tahoe Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay, and 10 km
Marathon starts at Commons Beach in Tahoe City and heads south on Highway 89 and finishes at Pope Beach in South Lake Tahoe. 10 km is the last 6.2 miles of the marathon course and is 99 percent downhill.

Xterra Nevada
An off-road triathlon that includes a 750-meter swim, 32 km mountain bike on the Flume trail and a 5 km trail run. Starts and finishes in Incline Village.

Xterra Scramble
A 10 km trail run with several log and river crossings Starts and finishes in Incline Village.

OCTOBER

Oct. 1
Xterra USA National Championships
Only qualified athletes may register for the USA Championships. Race consists of a mile swim, 32 km mountain bike ride on the Flume Trail and a 10 km trail run.

Big Blue 24 hour Lake Tahoe Adventure Race
