The abundance and variety of golf at Tahoe-Truckee’s 6,000 foot elevation is truly exceptional. From the nine-hole Old Brockway Golf Course in Kings Beach designed in 1924 by the renowned Scottish golf course architect John Duncan Dunn to the brand new Jack Nicklaus Signature course at Old Greenwood in Truckee, duffers can find a course to match their abilities.

Between Truckee and North Lake Tahoe there are more than a dozen public and private golf courses. And that’s not even counting the Feather River area courses about an hour north of Truckee.

Starting in Incline Village, the serious golfer will find the Championship Golf Course. This par-72, 18-hole course was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and opened for play in 1964. In spring 2005, $4.8-million in improvements to the course that Jones once described as the ideal mountain layout were made.

Topping of the work was the completion of the new $7.9-million, 23,000-square foot Chateau clubhouse.

South along Tahoe’s shore, those looking for a quick game will find Tahoe City Golf Course. The 9 hole course has wonderful views of Lake Tahoe, so make sure to take your camera.

Up Highway 89 in Olympic Valley is the Resort at Squaw Creek and its 18 holes, all surrounded by the peaks that make up famous Squaw Valley USA, site of the 1960 Winter Olympiad.

Further up the road in Truckee there are numerous courses. From the Coyote Moon and Tahoe Donner courses above town to the new Jack Nicklaus Signature course at Old Greenwood.

For those who have tested all the courses in Truckee and the North Shore, more challenges await along Highway 89 north. Away from the summer hustle around the lake are four more top-notch courses: Dragon, Graeagle, Plumas Pines and Whitehawk Ranch
