March 11 Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race
The Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race will take place at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort on March 11, 2007. The Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race is an event in which teams of two participate and compete in activities including free heal skiing, snow shoeing, navigation and map & compass skills. The race is designed so that participating teams finish within three to six hours. The course will challenge seasoned racers, but also offers those new to the sport the opportunity to participate and compete.
Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort, the location of the Tahoe Winter Blue, plans to open up new backcountry area for the event. Teams will be required to race through a variety of terrain and check-in at several points throughout the course. The order in which the teams choose to complete the check-points is one of the key factors in determining their success.
Adventure racing is not only a physical sport, but requires mental planning and strategizing. Topographical maps, compass work and navigational skills play an important part.
Resort employees, ski patrol members and local ski/outdoor shop employees are encouraged to enter. A portion of their entry fees will go toward an area non-profit cause.
Participants can race in teams of two. The teams may be co-ed or same sex. The entry fee is $200 and includes a two-day Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort pass.
