Listen up, locals. The sweetest deal on Lake Tahoe this fall is through Tahoe Sailing Charters, a 10-year-old locally owned business that is out to treat its customers right.
A two-hour sail from Tahoe City Marina to Sugar Pine point with all the beer and wine one can drink is just the perfect afternoon or evening activity to enjoy this September and October (read: No tourists on the lake).
From now until Oct. 15, locals get a two-for-one deal that includes a cruise on the lake with beer, wine, soda and iced tea at the 2 p.m. launch, or chardonnay, imported beer, soda and appetizers at the 5 p.m. take-off. The afternoon cruise is $20 per person and the sunset cruise is $25 per person — a deal that can’t be beat.
Mike Pavel, who co-owns Tahoe Sailing Charters with Jim Courcier, and gets help from first mate Robert ‘Fro’ Frolich, said he likes to make the ride laid-back for his passengers. On a recent trip he even let two passengers take the helm.
“It is a great natural way to see the lake,” Pavel said. “We like to start the cruise off with Jimmy Buffet. Have a couple of drinks. Relax.”
For the past two years, Pavel has been sailing a Santa Cruz 50 with a 65-foot mast. As many as 25 passengers can fit on the 50-foot performance boat that is designed for racing.
Although Pavel himself raced for years, he says he loves to take others out to enjoy the lake.
Ron Asher of Palm Desert, Calif., has been a repeat customer of Pavel’s for years and contends that it is the people that make the cruise enjoyable.
“This is living,” Asher said. “It don’t get much better.”
