We all know there are plenty of great places to watch the big game — basically anywhere you can find beer, salty food and a pack of friends will do. So before we get to those establishments throwing Super Bowl parties, here are some of the worst places to watch the big game:

• The TV in the Emergency Room at Tahoe Forest Hospital. (How to avoid it: If you go skiing or riding before the game, stay out of the terrain park just this once.)

• The holding cell at the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office in Truckee. (How to avoid it: Don’t start pounding the beers until the game actually starts.)

• The last row of pews at your church with a hand-held TV. (How to avoid it: Set up an alter above your television and tell everyone you’ll be spending the afternoon contemplating the wonder of creation — and the Bears’ lightning qiuck defense — from your couch on Feb. 4.)

• Anywhere in New England. (How to avoid it: There’s always next year. Make the trip down to New Orleans and drown your sorrows in a Hurricane or six with Saints fans.)

• Your Amish friend’s house. (How to avoid it: Get yourself one of those hand-cranked TVs and claim it’s just a miniature butter churn.)

Super Bowl parties:

Tahoe Biltmore Lodge & Casino (Crystal Bay)
The Biltmore will host their Super Bowl party in the Breeze Nightclub. Free admission, food and drink specials, and a huge projection screen (as well as a bunch of regular TVs as well) make the Biltmore’s Super Bowl party a good bet. Call 775-831-0660 for details.

Crystal Bay Club Casino (Crystal Bay)
Featuring three giant-screen TVs (including a new 20-foot HD screen) in the Crown Room, and 40 plasma TVs throughout the casino floor, the CBC is sure to draw a big Super Bowl crowd. At 1:30 p.m. three members of the Oakland Raiderettes will be greeting guests and signing autographs prior to the game, and an $8 all-you-can-eat barbecue kicks off at the same time and lasts untill 5 p.m. Enjoy $1 Budweiser and Bud Light drafts or $2 Widmer drafts throughout the game. There will be a free $1,000 pool ($250 each quarter) available to the first 100 Player’s Club members and various prizes will be awarded every quarter. Call 775-833-6333 for details.

Cal Neva Resort Spa Casino (Crystal Bay)
The Cal Neva has elevated their game with a huge jumbo-screen set up in the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Showroom, as well as the five 60-inch flat screens in the Circle Bar. The festivities start at 2 p.m. and they’re offerring free food, some great drink specials, and prize giveaways every quarter. Call 775-832-4000 for details.

Pete & Peter’s (Tahoe City)
The place to be for sports fans in Tahoe City, Pete & Peter’s has a huge party planned for the Super Bowl including prize giveaways at halftime and after the game (grand prize is a snowboard), a great pub menu planned with all your favorites, $1 Budweiser drafts and an appearance by the Bud girls from 3-5 p.m. Get there at noon to be sure to get a seat. Call 530-583-2400 for details.

Blue Coyote (Truckee & Squaw Valley)
With multiple TVs visible from every seat in the house, either Blue Coyote location would make a great place to watch the big game. Head to the Squaw Valley location if you want to make some turns before watching the action.

Rookies Sports Bar & Grill (Incline Village)
If you’re the type who just can’t sit still without a cold brewski in your hand at all times during the game, Rookies might be the place for you as they keep a designated driver on hand to drive guests home if you need a ride and can’t get a taxi. In addition, their food specials, four big-screen TVs and 20-plus other TVs will ensure that everyone has a super time (and gets home safely). Call 775-831-9008 for details.

Crosby’s Pub (Incline Village)
Always a locals favorite for the big game, Crosby’s will have a free buffet during the game and will have a bunch of swag to give away. Their 11 TVs and one big-screen plasma set mean everybody in the pub will have a clear view of the action and a full belly. Call 775-833-1030 for details.

Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort
Northstar-at-Tahoe will be hosting the big game both at Timbercreek Restaurant & Bar in the Village, as well as in the Village Center Plaza (weather and conditions permitting). In addition to showing the game, Timbercreek will offer specials on beer and appetizers, including chicken wings, nachos, potato skins, popcorn shrimp and stuffed jalapenos.

Skiers and riders who want to watch the game outside in the Village Center Plaza will be able to do so on a large video screen that will be situated in the Village so that guests can watch the game while sitting around one of the resort’s popular fire pits. Beer and cocktails will also be available at the Cabana Bars in the Village Center.
