Name: Robbie Huntoon
Age then: 50
Age now: 25
Residence then: Tahoe City
Residence now: Truckee

Hot Dog The Movie claim to fame: As a national moguls champion and world class skier Huntoon was the the skiing stunt double for Harkin Banks, skied out the back window at Gold Coast… His work in Hot Dog led to other stunt jobs in such movies as Ski Patrol, Better Off Dead, stunt coordinatoron Ski School, True Lies, True Colors, and Back to the Future

Favorite memory from that time: As Harkin Banks on skis, Huntoon skis through the restaurant at Gold Coast. The actress playing the waitress who opened the door for Huntoon to ski through wasn’t outfitted with a radio. She had no idea Huntoon was skiing down the hill at 40 mph for the scene. At the last second, someone shouted for her to open the door. Huntoon found out later a collision with the door was just a simple miscommunication away.

Scene you’ll never see: Shooting parts of the Chinese Downhill, Huntoon was directed to start at the ridge on Granite Chief before ahead of all the other skiers. “The camera man said to me ‘don’t stop before those trees.’” Huntoon took off down the bowl half a ski length ahead of the pack. Huntoon crashed into the stand of trees only to look back as see the rest of the stunt skiers pile into the same stand one after another. There was such a cloud of powder that the camera crew couldn’t get a clear shot of the calamity.

Name: Mark Vance
Age then: 20-21
Age now: 45-46
Residence then: Tahoe City
Residence now: Las Vegas

Hot Dog The Movie claim to fame: His ability to fake an Austrian accent got him the part of Heintz, Rudy’s (the villain) right-hand man.

Favorite memory from that time: Vance milked his 15 minutes of fame in Hot Dog for a couple of years. “It took me a couple years to come off the high,” Vantz said during a cell phone interview driving from Vegas to Los Angeles last week. “Eighties partying was hellacious,” admits Vance, who also said he chased “every girl I could get my hands on.” “I spent a lot of money on having a good time in Tahoe.”

Name: Mike Moore
Age then: 49
Age now: 24
Residence then: Squaw Valley
Residence now: Squaw Valley

Hot Dog The Movie claim to fame: One of the Rudettes, Rudy’s gang of skiers

Favorite memory from that time: “The movie took a life of its own,” Moore said from his Squaw Valley home. At the time the movie hit theaters, Moore, actor David Naughton, and Squaw’s Debbie Dutton were in Hawaii. Once word got out stars from the movie were in town, the Hot Dog actors were invited to movie theaters. “The line was out the door. It was quite a bit of excitement. It was a B-movie that really took off.”

Name: Steve Patton
Age then: 54
Age now: 29
Residence then: Squaw Valley
Residence now: Healdburg, Calif.

Hot Dog The Movie claim to fame: Patton’s skills as a skier landed him the job as stunt double for Rudy. He was the one who crashed through the picnic tables at Gold Coast. The scene was shot in one take, Patton said, which was fine with him as the picnic tables that fly apart in the crash were made of real wood.

Favorite memory from that time: Patton carries many memories from shooting Hot Dog — from getting actor David Naughton and other movie crew types to cry “uncle” when it came to see who could party harder, Hollywood or Tahoe. Perhaps the memory emblazoned deepest in Patton’s brain is the time he was in the makeup/wardrobe trailer the same morning as Shannon Tweed — who at the time was the Playboy’s Playmate of the Year. Patton showed up on set feeling the effects of one of those notorious nights of partying. In the trailer, he sat across from Tweed, who needed a wardrobe change ASAP. “Shannon Tweed … she pulls her whole top off,” Patton recalls. “My eyes are bugging out. I came to life. I’ll do anything you want today.”

Name: George Theobald
Age then: unknown
Age now: unknown
Residence then: Incline Village
Residence now: Alpine Meadows

Hot Dog The Movie claim to fame: One of the only members of the Rat Pack who didn’t need a stunt double for the skiing scenes, Theobald had been a freeestyler competing on the World Cup Freestyle Tour in the early ‘80s when he was cast as Slasher (the punk skier who’s always rocking out with headphones on).

Favorite memory from that time: “It was a lot of fun. A lot of my friends who I used to ski with and a lot of my friends who I am still skiing with now were there, either doing stunts in the movie or as extras,” Theobald said during an interview at the base of Squaw last week. Theobald recalled some long nights on the set — especially one of the party scenes filmed at the lake — followed by early mornings on the slopes. Schedules reminiscent of the movie’s plot. He also still has fans of the movie approach him, often to tell him how the movie inspired them to come out to Squaw.
