If you’re too broke to take overseas adventures of your own this fall, live vicariously through regional writers as they share their travel tales. Friends of the Tahoe City Library and The Bookshelf bookstore will host a literary event Friday, Oct. 27 promoting a new travel anthology, "30 Days in Italy," featuring work by local author, Laura Read.
After hours committed to writing travel and destination stories, Read sent her submission to Traveler’s Tales and was excited to learn she would be published in her first-ever literary anthology. Read’s story on her 70-kilometer cross-country ski race in the Dolomites finds its place among pieces inspired by aging Italian painters, mysterious craft workshops on the backstreets of Florence and interviews with famed author Frances Mayes, who wrote "Under the Tuscan Sun."
In an effort to promote the book’s release, in coordination with Friends of the Library evening event series, Read invited three Bay Area authors to speak on the stories featured in the anthology. Along with Constance Hale, Bill Fink, and Michael Shapiro, Read will share excerpts from "30 Days in Italy."
Read is a seasoned freelance writer who has lived in Tahoe City for 15 years. She concentrates on non-fiction magazine writing with central topics of environment, people, wildlife and the arts. Her work has graced the pages of Sunset Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Nevada Magazine, ForeWord Magazine and works as a contributing editor for the Tahoe Quarterly. She got her start writing for the Jackson Hole News and even used to report for our very own Tahoe World.
