The 26th Annual Squaw Valley Mountain Run and Valley Nature Walk will take place August 5, 2006, at Squaw Valley USA. Hundreds of runners and hikers will make their way up the scenic three-and-a-half-mile course to help raise funds for Tahoe Forest Hospital cancer programs.
The Mountain Run is comprised of two divisions: the Squaw Valley Mountain Run for competitive or experienced runners, and the Squaw Valley Mountain Hike, which follows the same course but is not timed. Both events will begin at the base of Squaw Valley USA and finish at High Camp, where music and refreshments will be provided. Discounted tram tickets will be available to friends and families of Mountain Run participants.
This year, a new activity has been added to the Mountain Run list of options: The Valley Nature Walk. The Valley Nature Walk is perfect for those interested in experiencing the beauty of Squaw Valley without the strenuous 2,000-foot climb to High Camp. The Nature Walk course features a variety of trails through Olympic Valley, starting and finishing at the Village at Squaw. Award ceremonies and festivities for all three events will be held at the Village at Squaw.
Proceeds from the Squaw Valley Mountain Run and Valley Nature Walk will help support cancer prevention programs of the Tahoe Forest Hospital District. These programs focus primarily on cancer prevention, detection and treatment; health awareness and screenings; senior citizens’ prevention programs; Latino Health outreach programs and community cancer education workshops.
