The fireworks will be over so there’s no excuse. Head on over to the Crown Room for what promises to be one of the best shows of the year this Saturday, July 5. The Spazmatics deliver non-stop nerd infested  rock at its finest.

If you want to be sent back to the 80’s, The Spazmatics are the ultimate experience. The band lends its geeky charm to performing 80’s hits complete with “nerdography” and “spaztic” movements. They add a unique dimension to their performance, demonstrating the common ties between 80’s new wave and today’s popular music. In addition to a recently filmed national commercial for Comcast, The Spazmatics have been regularly featured at top nightclubs and perform for many of the highest level private events in the United States, including a recent performance at The White House for President George W. Bush, as well as for celebrity Jessica Simpson’s recent birthday bash.

The Spazmatics bring back the sounds of the 80s and all the nerdiness that the decade was famous for. Nerd out with The Spazmatics July 5 at 10 p.m at the Crystal Bay Casino’s Crown Room for a free show.

Tahoe World Associate Editor Morgan Kriz got in touch with Wayne Spazzy, Spazmatics drummer, for a quick Q&A…

Tahoe World: How did the Spazmatics come together?
Wayne Spazzy: We were all friends in high school — I met the guitar player Gilbert in an advanced quantum mechanics class.  We got tired of seeing average bands around the Bay Area and decided to bring the Nerds That Rock to the people!

TW: What can show goers expect from your show?
WS: The Ultimate 80's experience with “Nerdography” — pure adrenaline, confidence and musical execution!

TW: What is your favorite 80s song to sing?
WS: Jessie's Girl

TW: What type of music do you listen to on the radio, CDs?
WS: Def Leppard, early Van Halen, Prince

TW: Do you all love The 80s?
WS: Computers came from the 80’s; it was a revolutionary generation that deserves attention. I could do without the big hair and stone washed jeans though.

TW: If you could be in one 80s band back in the day, which one would it be?
WS: Early VAN HALEN with Diamond Dave up front of course!!!

TW: How do the Spazmatics differ from the other bands that perform 80s songs?
WS: For one thing we are a four piece all sexy nerd guy group! (nerd laugh) Our approach is completely different than all 80’s bands I have seen in that we have highly complex dance moves and we involve the crowd with our high energy and enthusiasm.

TW: Have you ever played Guitar Hero or Rock Band?
WS: I have not actually played it, but we have dissected it and messed with the inter-circuitry to see how it works. I’d have to say it's a modern “Simon.”

TW: Have you always had the nerd look? Do you think ladies dig the look?
WS: Girls think we're vulnerable and approachable. We are nerds & proud of it. We were outcasts, beat up and never got attention back in school; now we are the proud voice of all nerds and WE ROCK!!!
