Sometimes it seems like the slopes are full of dummies, but on April 5 they’ll take to the air.
Both Mt. Rose and Diamond Peak will host Dummy Downhills — wacky events where groups build funny contraptions out of pretty much whatever, then send them down a slope and off a jump.
Big air, insane stunts, and some wildly entertaining crash landings are pretty much guaranteed. And participating teams can get up to four free lift tickets just for entering their dummy in the contest.
Just don’t try to hide an actual live person inside your “dummy” as that is strictly forbidden.
For more details on either of these great spring events, read below:
April 5 8th Annual Diamond Peak Dummy Downhill April 5 is a day of dummies at Diamond Peak! The Dummy Downhill has been a favorite event for eight years and every year it gets bigger and better.
Join us for the 8th Annual Dummy Downhill where participants build a dummy on skis or snowboards that get launched off of a big jump. Watch as unique characters fly down the hill or crash hard. This is the flugtag for dummies!
Teams or individuals who enter a dummy will receive a free commemorative T-shirt and lift ticket for the day (limit four tickets per dummy). The Dummy Downhill is open to the public and there are no registration fees. Dummies need to be at the base lodge by 11 a.m. to be judged on creativity. The jumping will begin at noon and an award ceremony will follow.
Dummy builders are encouraged to be as creative as they can. The following restrictions apply to all dummies: They can not be live, must not weigh more than 75 lbs, teams that build their dummies to lose parts as they crash will be required to clean up afterward. At least one person from each team must be available to transport and/or unload their dummy at the top of the launch.
Categories include Best Crash, Longest Jump, Most Creative, and more. Winners will receive gift certificates to Aloha Skin Spa, Cosmo’s Footworks, Crosby’s, Hyatt Regency, Austin’s, Village Ski Loft, Bobo’s Mogul Mouse, Play It Again Sports, Tahoe Sands Resort, Grand Sierra Resort, Nine Lives Winter Gear Shop, Incline Jewelry, and more. The Dummy Downhill is a perfect spring event!
Big Brothers Big Sisters will also be joining us for this special event. The Big Brothers Big Sisters organization is a one-to-one youth service that’s been around for more than a century, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada will be enjoying a free ski day compliments of Diamond Peak on April 5.
Diamond Peak is located on 1210 Ski Way in Incline Village, Nevada. For more information and current conditions, call (775) 832-1177 or visit www.diamondpeak.com.
April 5 Mt. Rose Dummy Downhill Mt. Rose - Ski Tahoe opens the gate to high-flying, speed demons of every shape and size, with one catch: No live pulse can accompany any entry. Witness pure lunacy as dummies compete for the best run down Show-Off, directly in front of the Mt. Rose main lodge.
Dummy building teams will recieve four free lift tickets with public (non-staff) entry. Registration is from 8:30—10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Rose Main Lodge. Don’t miss the fun!
