Formed by snowboard film pioneers Mike and Dave Hatchett, Fortress has been delivering explosive performances of original and cover music for nearly twenty years. But their show last year at OVL in Squaw Valley was something special — a night celebrating Mike and Dave's birthday with 500 of their closest friends that turned into "the sickest party ever."
Fast forward one year to last night, March 29, and the now annual party went off huge again, only this time it was open to all metal lovers.
Fronting the band was Jeff Martin from Racer X and Whitfield Crane from Ugly Kid Joe. Mike and Dave Hatchett were also joined by local rockers Matt Reardon (singer/songwriter) and Shane Anderson (vocals), and a slew of other guest musicians including Klaus Eichstadt from Ugly Kid Joe and Jimmy Degrasso, formerly of Megadeth.
With such a talented lineup of musicians, and huge piles of speakers on either side of the stage, the room was set for a blitzkreig of sound and fury, and the boys did not fail to deliver.
The appreciative crowd, many decked out in their '80s best, quickly formed a rowdy mosh pit, while those in the back banged their heads and raised their fists in a metal salute as the band ripped into covers from Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and originals inspired by these bands.
