The Ultimate Boarder
The Ultimate Boarder is the first-ever challenge of its kind: a one-week competition to find the first athlete who can conquer the art of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. The Ultimate Boarder was created in response to the growing popularity of these sports, and as a way to promote healthy athletic lifestyles among young athletes in a positive and competitive environment that grooms role models and heroes for our country’s next generation.

Opening the field to both amateur and professional athletes, the Ultimate Boarder, held from April 13-19, gives unknown riders a chance to shine alongside the pros and compete for the first-ever Ultimate Boarder champion title and a first place prize of $30,000. The snowboard competition will be held at Squaw Valley USA on April 13.

“This event is all about providing a venue where we can showcase and discover a unique and truly gifted athlete,” said Founder & CEO Tim Hoover. “An individual who possesses balance, skill, athleticism and endurance in three of the top board sports in the world.”

The snowboard competition on April 13 at Squaw Valley USA, is followed by the surf competition on a date to be determined from April 16-18 at C Street (Ventura, Calif.) and will complete with the skateboard competition and awards ceremony on April 19 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds (Ventura, Calif.).

Athletes will compete in a triathlon style format with each competitor judged on an individual basis. At the completion of each event competitors will be ranked first through 50th place. The contestant who consistently places the highest in all three sports and has the lowest number of ranking points overall will be crowned the Ultimate Boarder. An athlete must compete in all three sports in order to be included in the final event results and prize purse. The one-of-a-kind athletes will be competing for a combined $50,000 prize purse, with $30,000 awarded to the first-ever Ultimate Boarder champion, $10,000 to second place, $5,000 to third place. The remaining prize money will be awarded through tenth place.

In addition to watching world-class athletes push their limits in the competitions, spectators will have an opportunity to partake in a variety of daily events including free demos, autograph sessions, vendors and more.

Ultimate Boarder is sponsored by Amtrak California, Flexfit, Red Bull, Redcord, Revenge Trucks, Rockford Fosgate, Sexwax, Skateboarder Magazine, Snowboarder Magazine, Soul Ryde, Squaw Valley USA, Surfing Magazine, Wahoo’s Fish Tacos and Wetsand.

Alpine Meadows Ski Resort offers $139 unlimited spring pass
Alpine Meadows Ski Resort will offer an unlimited Spring Pass for just $139. On sale now and valid every day from March 30 until season’s end, the Alpine Meadows Spring Pass gives skiers and riders full access to the best spring snow in Tahoe for less than the price of three lift tickets.

The mountain staff patiently waits for snow to complete a sufficient multi-day freeze/melt process (snow surface warms and becomes smooth during the day; the smooth layer freezes at night) before opening for skiing and riding. The reward, perfectly smooth corn snow runs.

Alpine maintains its flawless corn snow by adopting a “follow the sun” ski philosophy. During the warm spring days, terrain opens and closes throughout the depending upon when they’re kissed by the sun.

Live music every Saturday on the sundeck, and unique spring events – including the Annual Snow Golf Tournament and Mad Cow Downhill – are perfect compliments to Alpine’s beautiful spring terrain.

Purchase the Spring Pass at the Alpine Meadows Special Tickets window or at SkiAlpine.com today to access some of North America’s best spring terrain starting Sunday, March 30. Apply your $139 purchase price toward your 2008/2009 adult full season pass.

The Jeep Terrain Park Challenge
The Jeep Terrain Park Challenge, a progressive grassroots program that promotes safety and responsibility at terrain parks, will be hosting a Safety Clinic and Competition at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort on Sunday, March 30, from noon to 4 p.m.

This will be one of the last events of 45 events in the series taking place across the U.S. at terrain parks. This is one of the newest and fastest growing features at resorts in which riders navigate through a series of pipes, rails, tabletops and other obstacles . The Jeep Terrain Park Challenge, in conjunction with the Rossignol Demo team, will help aspiring terrain park riders learn the latest tricks in addition to teaching them the best practices in terrain park safety and etiquette.

Skiers and snowboarders who might like to come show their best moves (and learn a bit about safety as well) are invited out for this event this Sunday at Sugar Bowl.

Ski for $10 at Homewood
Season pass holders from any other mountain, from California to Chamonix, now receive Homewood Mountain Resort lift tickets for just $10 every Thursday. At a 75 percent savings, the Other-Mountain Pass Benefit is one of Tahoe’s best incentives; however, the real incentive is that signature Homewood view.

“The views from Homewood are probably some of the best views of any ski mountain in the world.  They’re just breathtaking,” said Rob Weston, Homewood skier and owner of West Shore Sports. “Equally great is the strong sense of community at the mountain. Chances are good that a visitor will serendipitously see a friend there,” he added.

Simply present your 2007/2008 season pass at any Homewood lift ticket window to receive a $10 full-day adult lift ticket every Thursday starting Feb. 28. Limit of one ticket per pass holder per Thursday.

In addition to the Other-Mountain Pass Benefit, no pass is necessary to take advantage of the new Homewood midweek lift ticket benefit.
