Ice skating
Truckee: The Truckee Ice Rink features public skating, skate rentals, a snack bar, group and private lessons for all ages taught by experienced instructors and broomball leagues. The rink is located at the Truckee River Regional Park, near downtown Truckee. For more information, visit www.tdrpd.com.

Northstar: Located in the heart of the Village at Northstar, all ages and skill levels can skate to live music in the 9000 square foot skating rink. Skate rentals are just $5, access to the rink is complimentary. For hours and more information, call (530) 562-3689.

Squaw Valley: Skate around the the Olympic sized Ice Pavilion at Squaw Valley’s High Camp, 8,200 feet. Guests access the rink with a ride in the scenic Cable Car. For more information, call (530) 452-7246.

Swimming year round
Swimmers of all ages can still take the plunge at the Incline Village Recreation Center, located at 980 Incline Way, in Incline Village or Truckee Donner Community Swimming Pool, located at 11725 Donner Pass Rd. in Truckee. Soda Springs
Soda Springs offers activities for all ages including tubing, Planet Kids, mini snow mobiles and much more. Soda Springs offers one of the area’s only mini snowmobile operations, the cost is $7 for 10 laps. Adult lift tickets are $28 while kids ages 13-17 can ski and ride for $20 and children 12 and under for $15. Activities include Soda’s snow tubing for $18 for a two hour session and Planet Kids, Soda’s new program for the little visitors, offering full equipment rental, magic carpet rides, tube carousel and lessons. Soda Springs is open for snowtubing and sledding daily between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Soda Springs Winter Resort is located off I-80, exit Soda Springs. Local School Children ski for $10
Squaw Valley Ski Resort offers students of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District to join the Squaw Club for $10 and ski and ride for just $10 every Sunday, school holidays and snowdays including Ski/Skate Week. Stop by the Special Tickets office at Squaw Valley with your school ID.

Sledding

Mt. Rose
Top of Mount Rose Highway — the open snowfields of Tahoe Meadows. There is lots of room here, this area has just about everything; snowmobiling, backcountry skiing, sledding and a snow play area, with plenty of parking.

Granlibakken’s Sledhill
Granlibakken has machine-groomed terrain. Cost for saucer rental and use of Granlibakken sled hill is $9 per day. Located right next to the Granlibakken Ski Hill. For more information, call (800) 543-3221.

Boreal Mountain Playground
The Playland Sledding area of Boreal Mountain offers sledding lanes for more fun on the snow for children of all ages. A plastic saucer is provided. Boreal is open daily between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Boreal Mountain Playground is located off Interstate 80, exit Castle Peak. Call (530) 426-3666

Northstar-at-Tahoe
Snowtubing at Northstar is great family fun and will be serviced by two different pull lifts this season, located adjacent to the Gondola and Lodge at Big Springs. Call (530) 562-1010.

Squaw Valley
Hop onto a snowtube, let a specially designed rope-tow pull you up the hill, choose a lane and enjoy the ride at Squaw Valley Ski Resort. For more information, call (800) 545-4350.

Soda Springs Winter Resort
Tube on a designated area of the mountain that offers two tubing tows that access four flumes or take it easy on the Little Dipper where children and families can enjoy slower-paced snowtubing excitement. Tubing lift tickets include the use of a snowtube. Soda Springs is open for snowtubing and sledding daily between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Soda Springs Winter Resort is located off I-80, exit Soda Springs. Mind Play
Mind Play, a new store in the Village at Squaw Valley, is designed to challenge the mind while enhancing the playful spirit and will host activities for mom's groups, story time for the kids, craft workshops and a Birthday registry. Mind Play, is open from 9:30 a.m to 6 p.m. daily. For more information, call (530) 584-6133.

Every Body Eats
The KidZone Museum has partnered with the Nutritional Coalition and Tahoe Center for Health and Sports Performance at Tahoe Forest Hospital (TFH) to bring a new exhibit, “Every Body Eats,” to the community. TFH nutrition team and volunteer docents will be teaching the important facts of healthy eating and there are 12 interactive and hands-on features on display. Every Body Eats will be on display through April 1 at Tahoe Center for Health and Sports Performance, located at 10710 Donner Pass Rd. in Truckee. Tour the Cal Neva
The Cal Neva Lodge in Crystal Bay offers an underground tunnel tour, where participants can see firsthand how Cal Neva’s former owner Frank Sinatra got from his private chalet to the main building showroom – virtually unseen. During the tour, you’ll hear stories of the Kennedys, Marilyn Monroe and Sammy Davis Jr., frequent guests of the resort in the 1960’s. For more information, contact (800) 225-6382.

KidZone Museum
The KidZone Museum is a children's museum in Truckee, designed for families with children up to age seven. Its mission is to inspire the life-long love of learning by engaging the minds, muscles and imaginations of our children. The KidZone Museum is open from 10 to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 10 to 3 p.m. on Sundays, closed Mondays. KidZone is located at 11711 Donner Pass Rd. in Truckee, Calif. Phone: 530-587-KIDS(5437).

Kids acting classes
Announcing “Get in the Act” Winter acting classes at Rideout Community Center, in Tahoe City. Children are introduced to the magical world of the performing arts through dance, acting and singing, while encouraging young performers to develop theirs skills in imagination, vocabulary, teamwork and coordination.
