Join some of Tahoe’s best ski and snowboard instructors at the 5th annual Day-Parker-Tomlinson Scholarship Fund Winter Festival and Fundraiser on Saturday, February 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Olympic Village Lodge in Squaw Valley. Come early for a tasty dinner, just $5 per person, and enjoy a night of music and socializing while supporting the professional development of snow sports instructors.
The Scholarship Fund provides funds to help deserving snow sports instructors pursue professional development courses and gain professional certification. There are three levels of professional certification (levels 1, 2, and 3) and with each level of certification, instructors are better trained, more knowledgeable and earn higher wages.
“The Scholarship Fund fills a need by providing financial support to cover the cost of certification exams which helps instructors improve their craft as well as earn more for their good work,” said Nicole Cheslock, a Board Member and past recipient of the Day Parker Tomlinson Scholarship Fund, a 501c 3 non-profit organization.
“I couldn’t have pursued my Level three certification without the support of the scholarship”, explains Kara Strehle, a Snowboard and Ski Instructor at Squaw Valley.
The Winter Festival is the only core fundraiser for the Scholarship Fund. Through the generous support of local and national businesses including sports shops and your favorite Tahoe and Truckee restaurants and cafes, the raffle prizes and silent auction offer awesome gear and gift certificates. People will walk away with everything from snowboards and ski gear to an HD television! Each person receives one free raffle ticket just by coming to the event which costs just five dollars per person. Tickets are available at the door.
