Errol who?

Truckee’s homegrown skiercross rookie has been making a name for himself as of late

Tahoe World Assistant Editor Morgan Kriz caught up with Errol Kerr via e-mail last week to ask about his recent success in skiercross at the X Games [he made the finals as a rookie, winning in the semi-finals along the way] and the first Jeep King of the Mountain races, as well as what he’s looking forward to at the Squaw Valley event.

Tahoe World: Were you surprised at your recent success?

Errol Kerr: I’m flabbergasted.

TW: Are you looking to do better at the 48Straight races?

EK: If you’re not always looking to do better, you shouldn’t be out there.

TW: What are you looking forward to about the JEEP King of the Mountain Tour here at Squaw?

EK: Coming home. It’s at my home mountain.

TW: Do you listen to music while you train?

EK: No

TW: What type of music do you listen to when you are out on the hill?

EK: I listen to music in my van on the way to the hill. The type of music is whatever gets us going that day.

TW: What gets you pumped up before a race?

EK: Just the excitement of being able to compete.

TW: What goes through your head while you are racing?

EK: I just want to go fast.

TW: How does it feel to be racing with some of the fastest skiers in the world?

EK: This is what we always dream of, and to be able to do it is an honor and a great pleasure.

TW: Do you train all year long?

EK: Yes.

TW: How do you keep motivated?

EK: I live to ski, and I ski to live.

TW: When was your first skiing experience? (Do you remember?)

EK: All I remember was being too scared to ride the chairlift.

TW: Did you ever think it would take you this far?

EK: I’ve always dreamed of taking a pair of skis and showing the world how far your dreams can take you.

TW: I read you are an amateur photographer. What do you like taking pictures of?

EK: Abstract stuff.

TW: Do you hope to learn more about photography someday?

EK: No, that’s why I’m an amateur.

TW: What would be your ultimate skiing experience?

EK: To be a world champion.

TW: What do you like most about what you do?

EK: I love going fast.

TW: Please feel free to add whatever else you would like.

EK: Have your readers hit me up at myspace.com/errolkerr.
