Winter Trails Snowshoe Program
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association features snowshoe events for new-timers, old-timers and the entire family. All treks are accompanied by TRTA staff and volunteer guides and they are free.
• Feb. 2: Where: Big Meadow (South Shore). Distance: 5 miles. Level: Moderate. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Feb. 9: Where: Castle Rock (South Shore). Distance: 2.5. Level: Moderate from 10 a.m. to noon
• Feb. 16: Where: Page Meadows (West Shore). Distance: 3 miles. Level: easy. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Feb. 22: Full Moon Snowshoe Trek Where: Echo Lakes (South Shore). Distance: 4 miles. Level: Moderate. From 7 to 9 p.m.

Snowshoe Series for Runners, Walkers and Kids
Northstar Resort will host this inaugural event – a unique, first-time event for the Tahoe region! Three separate courses, designed by Peter Fain, Atlas Snowshoe Racing Team Member, will include a 5K Fun Walk Run, a 10K Competitive Run, and a 1K Kid’s Rising Star Rumble. Race events will take place on Feb. 3 and March 9. Participation is $25 in advance for 5K and 10K competitors, and $35 day of. Kids participating in the Rising Star Rumble are $15. Monetary and other prizes will be awarded to top winners in each category.

$20 Squaw lift tickets
Squaw Valley is offering everyone who lives and works in the Reno-Tahoe area $20 lift tickets on Feb. 21, March 20 and April 20. To purchase this special $20 lift ticket, local area merchants and employees should bring a recent local pay stub (dated after January 1, 2008) and a valid photo ID to Squaw Valley’s “D” ticket booth between 8:30 and 11 a.m. on event dates.

Telemark and Alpine Touring Demo Day
Alpenglow Sports has partnered with Alpine Meadows Ski Resort to provide a free Telemark and Alpine Touring Demo event for residents of the Lake Tahoe Basin and beyond. The date is this Saturday, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. Participants must either purchase a lift ticket from Alpine Meadows, or possess a valid season pass. A free raffle for demo participants will be held at Alpenglow in Tahoe City after the event.

Burton Demo Tour & AM Open Series
The 2007/08 Burton Demo Tour features stops in the U.S. where riders can test ride the latest Burton Snowboard gear for free. Northstar Resort is one of the premier 10-stop Super Stops, with the The Demo Tour to be held Friday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Main Street Expo (at the top of the Gondola).
 
AM Series Slopestyle
The AM Series Slopestyle event will be held Saturday, Feb. 2 on the Pinball trail, and the Halfpipe event will be held Sunday, Feb. 3 in the Superpipe off of Pipeline. Rider registration for the AM Series is now open and should be made online at www.burton.com/amseries. There are men and women competitions in each discipline. The winner from each discipline will win a wildcard spot to the US Open Snowboarding Championships in Stratton, VT.

2nd Annual Disabled Sports Ski Challenge
The 2nd Annual Disabled Sports Ski Challenge will take place on Friday, Feb. 8 at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. This year’s event will include a team ski race, a poker run and an après ski party held in the Alpine Meadows’ Lodge overlooking the slopes. Each team will include a disabled skier possessed by our Disabled Sports participants.

Teams are open to everyone including: corporations, ski clubs, families and friends. Cost is $200 per person/$800 per team and sponsorship opportunities are available.

Burton Women’s Learn to Ride Camp
With low student to teacher ratios, and instructors who understand women are built and learn differently than men, ladies are guaranteed a successful riding experience. The Burton Women’s Learn to Ride Camp will be at Northstar Resort February 8-10, 2008.

Babes in the Backcountry

Babes in the Backcountry features many upcoming clinics and workshops for women. Dates include Feb. 16: Sugar Bowl Tele Tune Up (for all levels); Feb. 17 Alpine Meadow: Sassy in the Steeps ( for more advanced levels); March 8-9 Alpine Meadows: Tele Weekend; March 14-16 Backcountry Yoga Retreat- Lost Trail Lodge- in Truckee.

Sundays in the Park
Alpine Meadows presents the SnowBomb Sundays In The Park, a season-long competition each Sunday in the Alpine Meadows Terrain Park. Open to skiers and snowboarders, Alpine Meadows will feature nine different rails, boxes, wallrides, slopestyle runs and jumps throughout the series. Registration is free, a lift ticket is required. Skiers and snowboarders can sign up at the Kangaroo terrain park building from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Competition starts at 11 a.m.

SnowFest
North Lake Tahoe Snow Festival will take place Feb. 29 through March 9. The 27th annual event celebrates Tahoe’s signature season with a week of festivities, including a polar bear swim, parties, parades, ski and boarding challenges, wacky competitions, concerts and special outings and activities.

Telemark 1-day Camps
Those interested in learning, improving or perfecting their telemark technique are invited to participate in Northstar Resort’s one-day Telemark Camps. These clinics are designed to help participants of every ability level become more efficient skiers, making for easier, more fluid skiing. Participation is $119 and includes a one-day access lift ticket, four hours of instruction, video analysis, use of demo equipment (if needed), a class ratio of less than six to one, and a lunch voucher valid for up to $10. Camp start at 10 a.m. and will be offered on February 10, March 9 and April 13, 2008.

Mt. Rose’s Slide Back Day
Mt. Rose’s Slide Back Retro Ski Party will take place on Saturday, Feb. 9. Break all of the ski fashion laws, on this one-day only, at the always-chic Slide Lodge at the bottom of East Bowl. A slide back fashion contest offers a $500 gift certificate from Village Ski Loft for modern gear.

Learn to Ski & Ride at Squaw
Squaw Valley USA is proud to host the first of three “Learn to Ski & Ride Days” on January 13. Squaw Valley USA’s Learn to Ski & Ride Days are designed to introduce new skiers and riders to the mountain by providing an inexpensive and accessible opportunity for people to learn to ski or snowboard. First-timers who come to Squaw Valley USA on Sunday, January 13 receive a $35 beginner package that includes a single-day beginner lift ticket, equipment rentals, and a lesson. Additional Learn to Ski & Ride Days will take place this season on February 3 and March 30.
