The Tahoe Gallery presents “Soft Tissue” by artist Natalie Rishe, a display in the Prim Library at Sierra Nevada College, Jan. 15 through Feb. 8. A reception and lecture with the artist will take place on Thursday, Jan. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. The Tahoe Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery is located at 999 Tahoe Blvd., in Incline Village.
Thursday, Jan. 17 The UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center presents “Water in the West: What’s on tap,” lecture with UC Davis professor Jeff Mount. From shrinking Sierran snowpacks to regional water transfers to extreme floods, Dr. Jeffrey Mount will examine an array of current and future water resource conflicts, including what to do about them and why, in most cases, we may choose to do nothing at all. A no-host bar will start at 5:30 p.m., lecture will take place at 6 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Assembly rooms 139 and 141, located at 291 Country Club Dr. For more information, call (775) 881-7562.
Friday, Jan. 18 Diamond Peak, The Village Ski Loft and Hacienda De La Sierra are having a party to celebrate the basin wide snowfall starting at 7 p.m. Public Eye will be shakin’ the house with their famous sets of good time rock and roll and dance tunes while Diamond Peak and the Village Ski Loft will be giving away spectacular raffle prizes. Saturday, Jan. 19 Sugar Pine State Park features a full moon snowshoe tour at Sugar Pine Point State Park at 7 p.m. and will be led by state park rangers. The cost is $10 and includes snowshoe rental. For reservations, call (530) 525-9920.
A Taste of Nepal. The Incline Library along with local nonprofit READ Global will feature an hour with the Nepalese Student Association of the University of Nevada, Reno from 4 to 5 p.m. Enjoy a live presentation on Nepal’s people and geography, followed by some fun family crafts and games and a change to sample some favorite foods from Nepal. Painting Classes. Paint the beautiful Tahoe landscape in all four seasons. Subjects and techniques will include snow covered trees, fall aspens, daffodils in a forest and summer wildflowers. Composition, color, and value will also be taught. Perfect for the absolute beginner or continuing student. Sunday, Jan. 20 Northstar-at-Tahoe will be hosting a full moon snowshoe tour featured at the cross-country ski and snowshoe center. The Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Center is located at mid-mountain and the event starts at 6 p.m. It is recommend leaving the Village at Northstar, 30-45 minutes before tour begins. Participants must be on the gondola by 5:45 p.m. The cost is $35 for adults, $25 for children under 12. Snowshoe rental is $5. For reservations, call (530) 562-2475.
Monday, Jan. 21 Homewood’s local student lift ticket program invites kids who attend school within the Truckee and Tahoe district to receive $7 lift tickets Sunday through Friday, valid from 1 to 4 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays. For more information, call (530) 525-2992.
Tuesday, Jan. 22 Spanish program. Tahoe Children’s Foundation is launching its Spanish Program by Chris Hennessey. The program includes songs in Spanish and conversational Spanish for children ages 0-42 months.
