Tired, hungry and looking for a place to kick back after a day on the slopes? Check out our cheat sheet on the best aprés spots in Tahoe and Truckee every day of the week.
Monday
• Mamasake Show up at Mamasake in the Village at Squaw Valley during Happy Hour (Monday-Thursday 5 to 6 p.m., Friday-Sunday 3 to 5 p.m.) and chow a hand roll of your choice, with a can of Bud for only $5. Contact (530) 584-0110.
• FiftyFifty Brewing Company Monday through Thursday at FiftyFifty (11197 Brockway Road, Truckee) you’ll get a burger and a pint of craft-brewed beer for $9.50. Tuesday
• Jake’s on the Lake Famous for spreading warm aloha, Jake's on the Lake Aloha Tuesdays will include weekly lift ticket raffle prize giveaways from Alpine Meadows. Proceeds from Aloha Tuesdays benefit Disabled Sports USA. Jake’s is located in the Boatworks Mall at 780 North Lake Blvd., in Tahoe City. Contact (530) 583-0188.
• Hiro Sushi Get 16 oz. draft beers for $2-$3 (think Coors, Sapporo and Great White Bite) as well as great deals on appetizers and sushi from 5 to 6 p.m. every day at Hiro Sushi. Remember, happy hour prices only apply at the front bar so get there early for a prime spot. Contact (530) 546-4476.
Wednesday
• River Ranch Alpine Meadows lift tickets will be raffled off all winter at Wild Wednesdays, making the River Ranch the perfect stop after a day on the mountain. Wild Wednesday proceeds benefit Disabled Sports USA. River Ranch is located at the bottom of Alpine’s access road. Contact (530) 583-4264.
• Caliente Come to this new Kings Beach hangout (8791 North Lake Blvd., Kings Beach) every Wednesday Caliente will give away lift tickets, season passes, dinner gift certificates, T-shirts and winter gear from Alpine Meadows and Homewood. And, Homewood and Alpine Meadows pass holders receive a 15-percent off their bill that day. Contact (530) 546-1000.
• Sunnyside Wednesday’s from 4 to 9 p.m. at Sunnyside you’ll get $3 drafts and 1/2 priced fish tacos. You’ll also likely make 20 new friends. Get there really early to get a seat, otherwise you’ll have to circle like a shark looking for people finishing up. Contact (800) 822-2754.
Thursday
• Cottonwood Restaurant This winter, Cottonwood will once again host “Acoustic Thursdays,” an evening of lively acoustic music coupled with food and beverage specials. “Last winter, Thursdays became a real local's night”, says owner Mike Blide. “We are booking some great talent and scheduling the up-tempo acoustic acts for Thursday nights. With the specials we have planned we anticipate a great turnout this year as well.” There is never a cover at Cottonwood. Cottonwood is located on Rue Hilltop off Brockway Road in Truckee. • Hacienda De La Sierra Every Thursday night you can win Alpine Meadows lift tickets every week at the Hacienda. The grand prize, which will be given to the lucky raffle winner on the Alpine Nights Grand-Finale Thursday, receives an Alpine Meadows season pass. Friday
• Gar Woods Every Friday night Gar Woods will give away lift tickets, season passes, dinner gift certificates, T-shirts and winter gear. Plus, Homewood and Alpine Meadows pass holders receive 15 percent off their bill.
• Rookies Show up at this Incline Village sports hub for well drinks and drafts under $3 during happy hour (3 to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday). Watch the game or play video poker as you watch for the appetizer taster plates getting passed around. Contact (775) 831-9008.
• Auld Dubliner Any weekday from 3 to 7 p.m., stop into the Auld Dubliner in the Village at Squaw Valley and get an appetizer and a pint for $10. Also remember 1/2 price Monday’s at the Dubliner means you get half-off all food all day. Contact (530) 584-6041.
Saturday
• CB’s Pizza & Grill Come to this funky Carnelian Bay hangout (5075 North Lake Blvd., Carnelian Bay) where vintage lunchboxes and black and white jazz photos line the walls, and try their happy hour specials (3-6 p.m. every day). The best deal? A pitcher of good draft beer (think Red Hook or Steelhead) for only $9.75. Contact (530) 546-4738.
• Lanza’s Come into the cozy wood-paneled bar at Lanza’s (7739 North Lake Blvd., Kings Beach) for free slices of pizza during happy hour (4:30-6 p.m. every day). Wash it down with $1.50 Buds, or get 50 cents off any draft beer (Steelhead, Fat Tire, Gordon Biersch) and select wines. Contact (530) 546-4476.
Sunday
• Sol Y Lago Stop by the impressive bar at Sol Y Lago (inside the Boatworks Mall, Tahoe City) for great prices on the homemade sangria. Through happy hour (4:20-6:30 p.m. Sunday-Friday), sangria and house margaritas are only $4, well drinks cost only $3, and make sure to ask the bartender about discounted food items from the revamped Latin- and Mexican-inspired menu. Settle in for the game on plasma screen TVs or the sunset through huge lakefront windows. Warning: the impressive tequila list might mean you splurge before you leave. Contact (530) 583-0358.
• Big Wave Burritos The “20 @ 4:20” deal: Starting at 4:20 p.m., seven days a week, show up at this Village-at-Northstar burrito joint for $1 pints of PBR. Drink up because this fast-paced promotion only lasts for 20 minutes. Normal happy hour runs from 3 to 5 p.m. with pints of Pabst for $2.50 and pints of Fat Tire, Hemp Ale, Longboard and Tahoe Red for only $3.50. Contact (530) 562-8800.
