Wednesday, Jan. 2
•  Open Mic Night at Sawtooth Ridge Café. Jim Baldwin presents open mic night every Wednesday at Sawtooth Ridge Café from 6 to 9 p.m.  Bring a musical instrument,  bring your voice, get on stage and create music or listen to live music.  Contact (530) 583-2880.

•  Live music at the Village at Northstar. The Village at Northstar presents live music all week long in the village from 4:30 to 7 p.m. On Dec. 2 local musician Neva will perform; Dec. 3 The Jeff Jones will play; Dec. 4 TBA; Dec. 5 rock n roll band Public Eye will take the stage and on Sunday, Dec. 6 Remmel Wilson Jazz will perform from 1 to 4 p.m. There are many more events happening at Northstar, for more information, call (800) GO-NORTH or visit www.northstarattahoe.com

Thursday, Jan. 3
•  Karaoke Night at the Breeze. We Ain’t Saints production company presents Karaoke night at The Breeze nightclub every Thursday night at 9 p.m. There will be prize giveaways and Karaoke Superstar starts soon. For more information, call (775) 831-0660.

•  Tahoe Children’s Foundation. The Tahoe Children’s Foundation has programs for mothers and their young children throughout each month at 774 Mays Blvd. #12 in Incline Village. For more information and class times, call (775) 832-8230 or visit www.tcfkids.com.

•  Incline Village Library displays. The walls of the Incline Village Library will feature quilts by local resident Karen Colbert and display cases will be filled with beadwork by Susan Heikka throughout the month of January. Check out the fine art displays. Call (775) 832-41301

Friday, Jan. 4
•  Tool Drive at Tradewinds Bar. Local organization Burners without Borders will host a Tool Drive starting at 7 p.m. at the Tradewinds Bar with DJ’s Chad Rock (LABA), Ryan Howard (Champagne and Bacon) and DJ Paul. For more information, call (530) 546-2497.

•  Just for women ski clinic. Squaw Valley Ski Resort presents a ski clinic just for women. It directly addresses the needs and desires of women in the sport of skiing. Clinics include one-day primer clinics, a special senior (ages 50+) and expert clinics, designed for advanced skiers that are looking to further advance their skills in virtually all conditions. Saturday, Jan. 5
•  Snowbomb Sick n’ Twisted. The Toyota Sick n’ Twisted Freestyle Tour comes to Alpine Meadows for the big air event of the season in Tahoe. There are ski/snowboard, men/women, professional and amateur categories. Cash and product prizes. Entry fee is $10 for am $25 for pro plus lift ticket or pass. Registration will take place from 8:30 to 10 a.m., competition starts at noon. Helmets are required, minors must have a parent or guardian to sign their release forms. •  Telemark demo day. Alpenglow Sports has partnered with Alpine Meadows Ski Resort to provide a free Telemark and Alpine Touring Demo Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. All major sales representatives will be on hand with their demo fleets.

Sunday, Jan. 6
•  $25 Northstar tickets to benefit Excellence in Education. Northstar at Tahoe presents a benefit day for local education programs. 100 percent of proceeds go to the Excellence in Education Foundation. $25 tickets must be purchased in advanced from local Porter’s Ski Shops. •  Spy time at the Mine. Mine Children’s Store invite children 12 years and younger to participate in an activity every Sunday at 2 p.m. This week come watch a top secret spy movie in 3D and engage in a secret mission through the store. Mine Children’s Store is located on Gondola Way in the Village at Northstar. Participation is free.

Monday, Jan. 7
•  Walking the War Zones of Pakistan. Veteran mountaineer, author and photographer, Ruth Anne Kocour, shares her story of two journeys made “under-veil” into the menacing shadow of the Taliban. Her treks on the Baltoro Glacier to K2 and through tribal regions along the Afghan border are documented by exquisite slides. The presentation will take place at the Resort at Squaw Creek with a no host bar at 6:30 p.m., the program begins at 7 p.m. For more information, www.squawvalleyinstitute.org.

•  Salsa dancing. OB’s Pub and Restaurant in downtown Truckee presents a free salsa dance party every Monday hosted by Mountain Salsa Dance. A short introductory salsa lesson will be held at 7 p.m. before the dance floor opens up. Dancing will go until 9 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 8
•  After school story time. The Incline Village Library presents its after school story time from 4 to 4:30 p.m. There will be snacks, stories and activities. The library is located at 845 Alder Ave. in Incline Village. For more information and other events, call (775) 832-4130.

•  Volunteer at Pet Network. The Pet Network, local rescue and adoption agency for dogs and cats, is looking for volunteers to assist in many ways. This includes reception, gardening, mobile adoptions and playing with our dogs and cats while they wait to find new homes.
