Wednesday, Dec. 19

•  Lake Tahoe Adventure Series. Every Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m., Bar One located in the Olympic House at Squaw Valley, presents its seventh annual Lake Tahoe Adventure Series. Guest speakers will include athletes and world travelers who will feature slide shows and plenty of entertaining and informational content. For more information, call (530) 583-1588.

•  Tahoe Children’s Foundation. The Tahoe Children’s Foundation has programs for mothers and their young children throughout each month at 774 Mays Blvd. #12. Thursday, Dec. 20

•  Alpenglow winter film series. Alpenglow Sports continues its winter film series with extreme ski guru Andrew McLean. He will present a free two-part presentation on backcountry skiing in Africa’s High Atlas Mountains of Morocco and the rugged peaks of northern Iran at 7 p.m. at the Sawtooth Ridge Cafe in Tahoe City. A raffle will be held with proceeds to benefit the Sierra Avalanche Center, who will also be on hand to answer any questions. For more information about SAC go to www.sierraavalanchecenter.org. The Sawtooth Ridge Café will be open for drinks and a bite to eat before and during the shows.  

•  Conversation Cafe. IVGID’s senior services will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. at Aspen Grove located at 960 Lakeshore Blvd. in Incline for the next Conversation Café about “freedom.” For more information, call (775) 832-1302.

• Holiday tastings. The Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley has announced special menus for their Chef’s Holiday Tastings that take place every Thursday in December, from 5 to 10 p.m. A four-course dinner featuring a variety of fresh, seasonal ingredients is offered for $45 per person or $60 per person to also include expertly paired wines with the dinner. Friday, Dec. 21

• Squaw Valley Ski Resort presents the start of winter night operations where participants can enjoy High Camp and night skiing and riding until 9 p.m. Operations and schedule are scheduled to change based on weather and conditions. For more information, visit www.squawvalleyusa.com

•  Sleds, tube and snow. Sugar Bowl’s Snowplay area is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and is located off Interstate 80 at the Norden Soda Springs exit at its Donner Summit Lodge facility. Tickets are $10 per person and one can purchase sledding needs at Summit Snowboard and Ski shop located adjacent to the sledding area. Saturday, Dec. 22

•  Winter Solstice. Rainbow Bridge presents a Winter Solstice Candle Light celebration in Squaw Valley. The festive celebration will take place from 6:30 to 7 p.m., participants will have candles to light in the ceremony and there will be a breath meditation to welcome back the sun and send peace and love back to the earth. This event is for the entire family..

•  Full moon snowshoe tour. Northstar Resort offers guided full moon snowshoe tours each month during the winter season. Tours depart from the Nordic Center at 6 p.m. and cover approximately 5 km of terrain. Participants will enjoy a naturalist guided hike, live acoustic music, bonfire, s’mores and hot chocolate. • Squaw Valley presents a teen ski and snowboard camp specifically designed for ski and snowboarders ages 13 to 18. Sunday, Dec. 23

•  Squaw Sessions. Squaw Valley presents a teen ski and snowboard camp specifically designed for ski and snowboarders ages 13 to 18. Squaw Sessions provides the new school breed with the opportunity to experience Squaw Valley’s rich freeride culture firsthand. Sessions run from noon to 1 p.m. Dec. 22-Jan. 6. •  Santa visits Diamond Peak. Santa will be making an appearance at Diamond Peak Dec. 23-25 as he hits the slopes, giving out candy canes and preparing for Christmas. For more information, call (775) 832-1100 or visit www.diamondpeak.com.


Monday, Dec. 24

•  Torchlight Parade. Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade. Squaw presents its annual torchlight parade down the mountain. The parade begins at dusk and is an eye pleasing treat for holiday revelers A traditional family favorite, the Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade can be seen from anywhere in the Village or Squaw Valley base area. Watch as the Squaw Valley Ski School instructors descend the lower mountain carrying brightly lit torches in a beautiful procession of lights. There is no night skiing on this date. •  Royal Gorge kid’s cookie race. Royal Gorge presents cookie races where all participants are rewarded with cookies for their hard racing efforts on the fun course. The event is free for kids 4-12 years old, with activities starting at noon. Royal Gorge is off Interstate 80 in Soda Springs. For more information, call (800) 500-3871..


Tuesday, Dec. 25

•  Candy Cane Race. The Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort continues to have events for the kids with its annual Candy Cane fun race. This free event is for children ages 4 to 12 years old. Festivities start promptly at noon. For more information, visit www.royalgorge.com.

•  Santa hits the slopes. Santa and his elf tour will hit the Slopes at Squaw Valley Ski Resort spreading holiday cheer all over the mountain. Catch jolly old St. Nick Dec. 21-25 at Squaw Valley. Santa will also be at Diamond Peak Ski Resort Dec. 23-25.
