The revolution will be hypnotized
If you are anticipating to see a clock swinging in front of participants faces as they lay on a recliner chair telling their deepest, darkest secrets at next week’s Tahoe Comedy North show — you will be disappointed. Master hypnotist Chris Cady of Reno, will mystify the audience as regular everyday people from the audience are transformed into dynamic performers, all with just a simple word or snap of his fingers.

“Expect to be wowed and dazzled,” Chris Cady said. “People can prepare to laugh so hard they fall out of their chair as they watch demonstrations of the power of the mind.”

After using hypnosis as a form of therapy to over come post traumatic stress after a plane crash, certified master hypnotist Chris Cady took his talent to another level as he developed an entertaining hypnotizing act more than 20 years ago.

Cady explained that most people believe “they are too smart to be hypnotized,” that they can “battle against their mind” or “that it’s for those that are gullible.”

He said that those that are of average or more intelligence, or have a creative mind are easier to hypnotize. It’s the idea that inorder for the process to work, subjects have to lock their mind around an idea and tap into their subconscious mind. Depending on the person, the hypnotism process can take anywhere from one second to 15 minutes, but on average about seven minutes.

“I selected random people from the audience to participate in my show,” Cady said. “Nothing is fixed, I don’t talk to participants before, it’s all real. Suddenly participants become Britney Spears or any number of famous celebrities, or start dancing like Elvis. Funny things happen and when you see your family member or friend up there, it is even better.”

Cady said the state of hypnosis is like daydreaming. The subconscious part of the brain used during this state (what we use when we breath or blink), it also controls the imagination and dreaming.

“Every participant is different when they are hypnotized,” he said. “Some people remember all of their dreams, some remember bits and pieces and others remember nothing. It’s the same with being hypnotized. Those that don’t remember are quickly reminded when they see a video of themselves on stage acting like a pro wrestler or something. No one will be humiliated or embarrassed. Everything in the show is fun and safe.”

What is hypnosis?
It is a trance state characterized by extreme suggestibility, relaxation and heightened imagination. It is most often compared to daydreaming, or the feeling of “losing yourself” in a book or movie. You are fully conscious, but you tune out most of the stimuli around you. You focus intently on the subject at hand, to the near exclusion of any other thought.
