Located in the Olympic House in Squaw Valley, Zenbu, the Japanese word for “everything,” continues to promote a unique and diverse environment for locals and visitors alike. It is one of the more upscale lounge environments on the North Shore, with midrange drink prices, owner Daryl Butterfield explained in a phone interview earlier this week.
You are never underdressed or overdressed at Zenbu because, as planned, it has the decor vibe of the city but the laid-back feel of Tahoe. Finding the right balance between weekend warriors and the locals has been a good challenge for Butterfield, he said, as he continues to bring in quality entertainers and host fundraising events, private parties and holiday blow outs.
As the chair lifts keep turning, Zenbu will begin to prepare for wintertime hours and events. Butterfield was the founder of Red Eye Productions, producing big name shows and parties at venues around the area and all over the nation. His background is the backbone to his success opening Zenbu, having many connections to entertainers around the area and the experience throwing quality galas. This season he is pumped to bring big name acts such as Charlie 2na (rescheduled to play sometime in February), Heavy Weight Dub Champions, many well known DJs as well as a variety of local performers to the Zenbu stage, seven days a week.
This weekend kicks off with a film premier for all ages and after party for those over 21. Films include Tech N9ne, Special Blends and Forum. There will be free give-aways and pro riders from the films will be present for autographs. Doors open at 7 p.m. After party begins around 9:30 p.m.
Snow Gods Ball On Saturday night party, for a cause “retro style” as Zenbu and Bar One opens their doors for the annual Squaw Valley Ski Patrol’s Snow Gods Ball, a benefit for avalanche education. Aphrodesia will be playing on the Bar One stage and DJ Mancub will be playing “live on the ones and twos” on the Zenbu stage. Doors open at 8 p.m., music starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance; get your tickets from Squaw Valley Ski Patrol (530) 581-7260 or Dave’s Skis and Boards, or $20 at the door. The theme is “everything retro” — costumes are encouraged. There will be prizes and a huge raffle including a Squaw Valley midweek pass and lift tickets, skis, Avie gear and many more local donations. For more information, visit www.zenbusquawvalley.com.
