Walk across the linoleum, under the crinkled Town of Truckee sign, where the population still reads just over 1,200 — you can’t read the last number because it’s rusted out — you are at Donner Lake Kitchen.
Get ready for a hearty breakfast burrito or some fried eggs and bacon at this old-school restaurant.
The Space Just off of Donner Pass Road alongside Donner Lake, the kitchen sits backed up behind Donner Pines Market.
The floor creaks occasionally and snapshots of trout and Mackinaw pulled from the depths of Donner Lake dot the walls. It’s the type of old-school, cash-only place where you can linger over a cup of coffee and a plate of eggs and bacon and feel right at home.
The Food The Donner Lake Kitchen is a breakfast and lunch restaurant. The joint’s oversized breakfast burrito is a breakfast favorite, or go with a more traditional plate of eggs, bacon and hash browns or potatoes.
For lunch, the location offers a wide selection of burgers and sandwiches, including the BLAST — Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Sprouts and Tomato.
The Drinks Wash your breakfast down with bottomless cups of coffee or grab an orange juice. For lunch, choose from sodas or ice tea.
Gotta Try If you’ve got a sweet tooth, the snow is blowing outside and you want something to pair perfectly with several cups of coffee, go for the Cinnamon Gooey Buns. All the gooey goodness that a pairing of sugary glaze and soft buns can offer — this is sure to sate any sweet tooth.
Price Range You can get a great breakfast for under $10. Plan on spending just over $10 for a lunch.
Location 13710 Donner Pass Road
Contact (530) 587-3119.
