Finding the perfect gift for everyone in your life this season just got a whole lot easier with our holiday gift guide. During the next four weeks the Tahoe World staff will feature gift ideas and suggestions to cover every person who may be on your list this year and a few you may not think about. All ages, shapes, sizes, interests and viewpoints will be covered. And you’ll be able to do all your gift buying between North Tahoe and Truckee.
Step One: The first step we recommend is making a list and checking it twice to make sure everyone you want to shop for this season is accounted for.
Step Two: Check your budget. With any size budget, you can let your imagination run wild and can surely come up with wonderful presents to give your loved ones during the Holiday season. The earlier you start buying, the cheaper it will be and the less stress you will have. Shop locally and get the greatest gifts of all. It is, after all, the season of giving.
Step Three: Start simple. If buying expensive gifts is not your cup of tea, but you still want to give presents to your friends and loved ones, there are a lot of cheap presents that you can buy. Your gift may not cost a lot in terms of money, but its true worth comes with the time that you spent thinking of something that you think the person would love, instead of just wrapping gifts in random. The people to whom you will give the gift to will appreciate it more if your present for them is something personal that suits their taste and personality.
Homemade cookies and treats: Everybody loves goodies. You can dig up some old family recipes and prepare a special sauce, cook pasta or a special dish, or bake some cookies that can be enjoyed by the young and old alike. This makes for a cheap yet delicious present. Bring in a cookie dish to work or share with roommates, everybody loves delicious treats around the holiday season.
Handmade cards or crafts: If you like to paint or color, make a picture frame out of cardboard. Find a photo of a special memory together with that person or cut out a photo from a magazine to fill the space until they find a photo they like. Pictures always bring a smile to someone’s face. Making ornaments or special gift bags filled with Potpourri or soaps are always nice and inexpensive. Use those grocery bags for something other than a holder for more grocery bags. If you can sew or knit, a nice cap or scarf is a thoughtful gift that will be cherished. The possibilities are endless, as long as you put in your talent and a little imagination.
Personalized gift items: Buy a plain old mug or wine glass from a thrift store. Then, spray paint puffy paint or stencil in a personalized Christmas message for the recipient of your gift, including the name. Wrap it in a cheerful Christmas wrapper or colorful newspaper — you have an affordable yet very personal gift item to give.
Tahoe Stocking stuffers: Need a little gift for an acquaintance or a little something extra for a loved one? Attending a holiday party? Here are some gift ideas that you can pick up locally and fill that stocking a little more…
• Bookmarks • Travel mugs • Tea infusers with packages of tea • Handmade jewelry • Bath soap • Box cameras • Key chains • Tahoe apparel • Socks, mittens or a warm hat • Gift certificates to coffee shops • Dog bones, toys • Cat treats, toys • Playing cards • Buy someone a drink at a local bar • Candle • Wine bottle accessory • Beer friendly accessories • Games or puzzles
